Sony Ericsson P800 owners beware: an unfortunate user shares the tale of how a friend managed to capture his nocturnal (and rather audible) activities with a girl on tape.

Although a wide range of advanced capabilities presents the main lure of Sony Ericsson's P800, those very capabilities recently proved just a tad too advanced for one owner. Through an apparent glitch in the voice answering functionality of the P800, a UK-based owner of the P800 found himself treating one of his friends to what one might call a front row seat of his nocturnal activities with a girlfriend. And, to his further embarassment, the friend managed to tape what he heard.

Posted to the popular Esato discussion forum for P800 users on the Internet, the story of the UK-residing user who goes by the handle "janahan" quickly drew a range of comments, ranging all the way from sympathy from other P800 owners who fear something of the sort, to more entrepreneurial suggestions on how money could be made from such incidents.

Due to an apparent glitch in the voice answering functionality of the P800, the ring tone of the owner activated the 'Magic Word' functionality of the device, which lets users pick up incoming calls by means of speaking a certain word or phrase out loud. According to the owner, the wave based ringtone he had set contained the word "answer", which incidentally proved to be the very 'Magic Word' he had opted for to answer incoming calls.

The friend of the owner, on his side, was in possession of a Sony Ericsson T68i with voice recording functionality, and aptly managed - likely despite some initial bewilderement - to tape some 10 minutes of the following performance. This was, of course, played back to the owner in good spirit.

When asked to comment on the incident, a Sony Ericsson spokesman wryly noted that despite the company's hard work to bring more advanced mobile phones to its customers, users were themselves responsible for the various ways in which it was applied."

The next question that springs to mind is where was the P800 at the time? 😮

Enquiring minds need to know... 😃
