Hi,
I try to install some programs (sis or Java) from my MMC, because I have a MMC Reader/writer but no IR oder BT connection. Is there any possibility to install programs directly from the MMC ? Is there no "default" filemanager on the 3650 ? I can't find one...
Thanks in advance...
Try copying the .SIS file to the \Nokia\Install directory (Or is it \Nokia\Installs ?) then on your phone, go to Tools -> Manager.
It should be in the list, select it and click Install.
Hope this helps.
I tried this before, I created a directory nokia/installs on the MMC and started the Manager. It says that there are no programs to install. Is there any way to copy programs from MMC to drive c: ???
I think if you have the filmanager you can open the sis. File directly for instal. If you have non f.Manager download a tryal version..
maybe if you send it to your mail folder you could open it from your inbox..

But i NEED a filemanager to install a filemanager from the MMC, because I need to copy the SIS file from the MMC to the internal flash....is there no may to install programs from the MMC ? I can't believe that....
Get a freeware programme called Fexplorer. You can get it at my-symbian.com and some other places. It is a great utility for the 3650. You can copy files from your PC to your MMC and then use Fexplorer as a directory and file mangement system. It enables you to install programmes, drag and drop files, cut and paste etc. The best program I have yet to find for the 3650.

Thank you but this is a SIS file which needs to be installed. My problem is that I haven't a bluetooth/IR connection at the moment and I need to find a way to install directly from the MMC.
I am in the same situation. Get Fexplorer (download it onto your PC). Drag it or copy on to your MMC (I am assuming you have a card reader attached to your PC that will read your MMC). Once Fexplorer is on the card put the mmc back into your phone, install it and then it will enable you to put other files or apps (including .sis files) onto your mmc (using the card reader from your pc) and then install them using Fexplorer whne the card is back in your phone.
Once Fexplorer is on the card put the mmc back into your phone, install it .
But the question is : HOW TO INSTALL FROM THE MMC ? Could you please give me a step to step tutorial ?
find the file (using fexplorer it would be in the "e" directory which is the MMC directory). Open it. It will then ask you if you want to install it. Say yes. I tiwll then install and place the file in the appropriate director depending on the application (i.e sounds usually get put in the "c" directory which is the phone memory). If you are not using fexplorer I can't help you but I am sure other people here can.

Yeah, that's the problem because there is no file manager built in. I think the only way to install from MMC is to get one time access via BT/IR and then transfer fexplorer to the flash. After installing the program I can copy all files to the MMC and install them from there. What an oversight that there's no possibility to "explore" the MMC without any 3rd party software....
Try e-mailing it to your phone.
hahaha! I was laughing at the posts... People kept suggesting to install File Explorer, but his problem is, He cannot install any program including File Explorer because of his problem!
Anyway, I go with Marius and j2k's suggestion. Try saving the SIS file in your mail in MMC. Then, make sure that your messages is using the MMC memory, not the phone. Then, just open the inbox. It should be there. Or you can also email it.
hey you could try downloading the filemanager from a wap site 😉
if anyones got a link to a wap site from where you can download anyfile manager could you post the site address here
these are some funny posts!! LOL Sound like something taken from Mr Bean... LOL 😃 😃 😃

There are 2 solutions. Get bluetooth or download it from a wap site. Thats it. MMC Readers wont work cuz itn eeds to go in ure inbox or somewhere it can be opened. Not many people can get it emailed to them. I tried it and my provider didint let me dl it cuz it needed to be a viable filetype. (go figure)
So, if you have only MMC card reader/writer, no IrDA and no BT adapter on your PC and no chance to get the file via e-mail ...
... I've found the solution for such a case:
Copy the file onto 'Images' folder using the card reader/writer.
Updated: Change the extension from .sis to .jpg
Insert the card into the phone. Press Menu and select Images application (or equivalent - in non-English phone). Select your file (do not open as it is not an image), press Options->Send->Via e-mail. The empty e-mail form will open - but no need to fill it or even send it, just press Options->Attachments. Now you can see your file, press Options->Open (or just click on it) and the installation can starts.
Now you can decide, whether to install it now or later. As usual, the Installer will ask 'Install XXXXXX?'. If you answer Yes, the application will be installed, if you press No, it will be saved to the 'Installs' folder and you can install it later.
After the selected action ends, cancel the 'fake' e-mail sending. The message with the attachments will be automatically saved to Drafts. So go to Messaging, select Drafts and delete this message with the attachment.
If you pressed 'Yes' in the step above, you have now the application installed. If you pressed 'No', you can install it later in the following way - go to App. Manager, find this application prepared to install (you will recognize it by its name, in the right column it has no box-like icon), select it and press Options->Install. After the successfull installation, the installation file will be automatically deleted from the 'Installs' folder.
Finally, delete the file from the 'Images' folder.
but the sis file isn't listed by the image application.
Well i don't have BT or IR either but I emailed my self Fexploerer and installed it and now i just use it to copy new programs from my mmc to the installs folder.
Now if you cant email it to yourself got to wap.my-symbian.com on your phone and download it there. You can get most other programs while there too but Just get Fexplorer and install it. Once you have it you'll have no need for BT or Ir.
The only drawback to no BT or Ir is that The Nokia Syncing and file conversion won't even Run if you don't have a direct connection to the phone
You must rename your .sis file to .jpg, copy it to images, attach it to a email and open the attachment, and you can install it!

Yes, you can install anything using filemanager, even no need to copy the file to the 'Install' folder, just click on it to open.
But first you have to have filemanager installed.
And the problem was (read the thread): how to install the filemanager (or anything else) using only MMC card reader/writer (without BT or IR connection, without receiving mail via Internet, without WAP, web...).

I forgot - you need to rename it to .jpg. (Unlike the N7650, the N3650 Images app can see only files with "images" extensions).
I have updated my post above.
