I have the misumi usb bluetooth dongle that I bought from brando. It's the WIF-0402C reviewed here www.the-gadgeteer.com/ mitsumi-usb-bluetooth-review.html.

Anyway, it's small and looks nice. The software that comes with it will connect to my p800 and allow me to send files from my phone to my computer but the phone monitor that ships with the p800 does not recognise that connection. The nearest I have got to it working is a message box saying that a device is trying to connect via bluetooth but then I get one saying that the port cannot be enabled as it is in use by another application.

If anyone else has one of these I would be eternally grateful if you could share the required info with me!

I use the Mitsumi Bluetooth Dongle and it works very well. Wondows 200 Pro, I don't know about any other operating system. I had similar issues as those mentioned and was ready to throw it in the dustbin when I finally came accross some advice on another message board. The following instructions are what I did, it now works smoothly both on my desktop and laptop pc's running windows 2K pro.

I take absolutely no credit for the following instruction, someone way more clever than I am came up with this:

1. Uninstall ANY instance of Bluetooth sw in your computer (Widcomm, Mitsumi BT Suite, Blue Manager.. watever)

2. Restart the computer (remember to unplug the mitsumi from the usb port)

3. Download the MSI Software (I haven't tried the rest yet but this one works fine for me)

http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/bt45.exe

4. Install the sw and restart your computer.

5. Plug in your mitsumi and go to your device manager.

6. You should see an unknown USB DEVICE.

7. Now here comes the real deal. Go to C:\Program Files\Microstar\Bluetooth Software\bin\btwusb.ini

8. Open that file with a notepad and edit the following line.

VID_0db0&PID_1967 to

VID_03EE&PID_641F

There are two instances of it. So change BOTH of them. This line is to allow windows to detect the mitsumi device that u plugged in.

9. Save and restart your computer.

10. Go to your device manager -> select the USB Device -> Reinstall driver

11. Select the microstar path that i have previously mentioned and choose btwusb.ini

12. Windows should install the necessary sw for it !!

13. Restart the comp again and go to your BT Places.

14. Do a search for devices and you should see your device.

Hope this helps

This is brilliant advice and it works! Thanks so much. Just one question: the phone monitor shows the phone as connected but when I open Opera and try to open a web page I get a message on the phone saying that it cannot locate the server. What do I need to do to get my p800 to connect over bluetooth to my ADSL?

Marc

Use Opera browser, it works perfectly 😊

crafti, what about MSI BT Adaptor ? 😃 it works with the PC Suite, but it doesn't with MSI software (I have the lastest version, the one you posted)

Thanks 😉

Special, Sorry, I'm not sure really. I was under the impression that the MSI dongle was the one I should have bought, had I done my research first. Anyway, I didn't think the software in my previous post was the latest. You could try this:

http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/bluetooth.exe

However, if you're up and running OK, why change anything. I'm sticking with what's working. Though, as everyone else, I would very much like to initiate a serial connection from the phone rather that the PC but I just can't figure it out.

It all works now so thanks for all the help. Just needed to use the MSI bluetooth application to initiate a serial connection to the phone and viola!
