Do you think SE still cares about the P800?

I've had my phone now for 4 months and it works well, except for a few improvements that I'm still waiting for - the most important one, by far, is a complete mp3 player for the P800. I won't go into detail, but it has been mentioned in other threads on this discussion board.

Now, if you go to the P800 web site, there's a hot link to www.handango.com, where you can buy apps for your phone. Some of the apps are ok and some (Appforge booster come to mind very quickly) causes havoc after installation. The prices are quite steep for the more useful apps, which is why I haven't bothered buying any of them.

I still think the responsibily to release more apps to enhance the usefullness of the p800, lies with SE. Unfortunately it would seem that SE has decided to hand over that responsibility to private developers and just improve the PCSuite, in order to keep the helpdesk calls down. I'm sure SE can hire more programmers with all the money they're making from P800 sales worldwide!!!

I also think SE should release firmware updates on the web, so that I will be able to upgrade my own phone at home. I know that might sound dangerous, but most hardware manufacturers release firmware updates for hardware on the web, like PC motherboard BIOS updates, graphics cards, pc controller cards, etc. Why can't I plug my phone into the cradle and update it from my pc?

Just my two cents....

it's like saying microsoft should develop all the programs for it's Windows platform, ouch. :2gunfire:
you totally missed the point of the existence of Symbian OS.

:fadein:

Let me clarify : I believe SE should take responsibility to enhance all the EXCISTING apps on the phone and release apps that make the phone easier to use, but also essential, like Filemanager, which should've been there from the start. How else do you kill apps running in the background?

There will always be a market for Symbian OS developers, I'm thinking of apps like Worldmate, which will be quite useful if you travel a lot, but unfortunately I dont. So, for some people it might be useful, but not to others.

You mentioned Microsoft, so let's look at WindowsXP (their latest OS) then :

Microsoft released Mediaplayer 9, an enhanced version of 8.
Microsoft released Moviemaker2, an enhanced version of 1.
Microsoft released DirectX 9a, an enhanced version of 8.

I want to see the same sort of support from SE and I don't think I'm asking the impossible...

Get my point, guest?

I think SE could at the very least do like some of the 3rd party developers that actually have some1 in these forums chatting and answering to our querries, to show at least they do care for us, the P800 owners 😞

Hopefully they're lurking but too busy making great phones to be able to keep posting here all day. 😊

Besides, Gunnar posts quite a bit in the Java forums here and on http://my-symbian.com.

P800 is becoming one neglected child, wait till it turns havok. 😃 Kidding, but I agree SE should pay more attention to their softwares that came with the phone, look at the mp3 player, its so bare thats why some idiot have the courage to set such a high price for a "normal" player. There is simply no use for it and we can't uninstall it to save space either. :-?

the most useful app SE can release is camcorder recording or even a camera improvement upgrade ! and maybe make a memory stick duo higher than 128mb ! this is all I want for my P800 !

There are loads of things that can be improved,p800 has a great hardware and software(The OS)base, one that pops up in to mind right now is some kind of a joystick accessory for gaming.

😮

I wish SE had a 'What's New' section on their web site for the p800, to see what they're working on, or what's been canned, if they're planning any software releases/upgrades for this great phone, etc .

Would've been nice.
