how would i know if my phone were locked to accept the sim cards of only one company? like to globe telecom only here in the phils?
i bought my phone second hand from a person i no longer have any means to contact so i cant ask him. i want to change from globe to smart telecom so i have to find out first. thanks
hi, not sure if i get what u mean -- the best way to check if ur unit is not sim-locked - is to use a smart (if you are currently using globe or vice versa) sim card and try using it on your unit... 😊
Never heard of such 'sim-locking' a network can't rpevent a fone to be used by another network. At least that's what i understand of it.

In UK it is common if you buy certain operators phone (i.e. Orange, I know do this) you can only use a Sim from Orange unless you get the phone unlocked.
Here http://www.unlocking.f9.co.uk/faqs.html is an FAQ about mobile phone locking/unlocking and here in UK it is a big business, but here is a quote from that guide:-
There are four different locks:1. Provider Lock (MCC + MNC)
2. Network Lock (GID 1)
3. Provider Lock 2 (GID 2)
4. Sim Card Lock (MSIN)
The Provider Locks (1&3) locks the phone to a particular operator e.g. Vodafone SIMs can only be used in that particular phone with that lock enabled.
The Network Lock I have no info on (believe its similar to the Provider Locks).
The SIM Lock locks the phone to a single SIM card, not even another SIM from the same operator will work - it has to be the SIM that was provided.
Hope this helps!
ok, to clarify, based on gadgets post, what i mean is provider lock.
daz, providers frequently lock phones to their network only
whip, im currently globe but i dont know anyone who uses smart, so trying it out is something i cant do yet. any software to check or however else?
cool (actually not) didn't know they did that 😊
To check if you phone is sim locked or not you need a 9110 m/bus cable and this file, put cable on the phone other end on phone and press read me (phone on simcard out), you have 4 lock's if any are closed your phone is simlocked, do not press any other buttons as it may screw your phone.
