Encoding with better audio quality?

Nokia multimedia converter says that the codec used with encoding .3gp files is h.263 and for sound it's AMR. The audio quality blows goats.

Ok.. I fiddled around with virtualdub, and noticed that in video codecs there's Microsoft H.263. Is this the same codec? But the problem is that the program won't encode with that codec. And for sound there's GSM (=AMR?). Neither will it encode with this sound codec. Vdub says that the H.263 codec might be locked.

So are these the same codecs and is it possible to encode with better configuration with an other program such as Virtual Dub?

Or are there ways to get better quality sound with video? For example for usage with music videos.

I know that .nim (9210 communicator mmc-codec) files have better sound, but poorer video quality than .3gp. 3650 supports both though. Is it possible to mix these?

What about realmedia?
