Hi,
A couple of days ago I read that in Q3/Q4 SE will be increasing the amount of internal memory in the P800 (i.e. up from 12 Meg).
* Anyone know where I read this? I can't find it again!
* Anyone got any more information on this? (How much memory, is anything else going to change, any more info on when it's happening).
Thanks in advance,
Chris.
Yeah, i recieved a reply email from SE stating they are thinking about providing internal memory upgrades at designated Service centres. This will not be cheap though, as you would expect. 500mb internal would allow serious amouts of stuff to be put on eh? please re-read my name again wacko😃
Where did you get this info, guys? Can you post the SE reply?
I'm interested in this too.I'm still saving some cash to buy a p800 so if this is true it changes my options. What about more info, will SE release some kind of a p800i with the memory expansion already in place or the p800 will stay as it is and the memory expansion will be on user request.
Whichever it comes I hope SE will upgrade (free or at a cost) for us existing P800 owners!! 8)
If they did it for nothing I would be absolutely astonished.
I find it hard to believe that this will be economical for those of us who already own a P800. I would very much like more memory (mainly for storing MP3s) but my guess is that more MS Duos are likely to be the cheapest option and, let's face it, that's not very cheap (especially if you live in England where such things are grossly overpriced).
I seriously doubt if this is true. For a start the memory is likely to be soldered onto the mainboard and therefore very tricky to replace and besides 48mb (or whatever) total is plenty enough for a phone. Fair enough you only get 12mb to play with, but it would be far more economical for SE to replace the 16mb duo with a 128mb one with the same effect. Perhpas also better efficient coding of the firmware might help, a la t68 to t68i. And when the duos get more popular and available they will drop in price.
Saying that the new nokia 7250i had a memory increase.. how much? 0.5mb, BRING IT ON!
yeah, I heard that also they might put microdrive in there so that it can run windows
The more simple and cheaper way that they can upgrade the sysytem for us is that they will be able to replace the whole cover and some other parts so that instead of duos, Memory Stick Pro will be used instead, I think that this will be more possible.
It would be nice to have more memory.
While there should be clips replacement on the phone, I don't think it will be extremely difficult. Think of those Palm devices on the market, you can easily get third party memory upgrade without any problems. Upgrading the phone's memory shouldn't be too far away. 8)
Slight misunderstanding: I didn't mean that SE would take your current P800 and put some more memory in it; I meant that P800s available later this year will have more memory as standard, in the same way that O2 xdas moved from 32Mb to 64Mb.
