Im now a proud owner of a P800. THANK GOD! Got it from Phones 4 U for free, connecting to freedom 1000 on Vodafone with half price line rental for the first 3 months and i didnt have to take text bundles or insuarnce either. Wat prices did u all hav to pay for urs?

I paid Vodafone 151 for an upgrade. My tarrif is the Anytime 400.

Anyway, 2 weeks later the invoice came through and is had 0.00 on it.

So, I think I got the best bargain !!!

SE need to offer us something in return for being friends of the P800. A great smartphone like this has to have a large memory or solid state drive to be able to run all the media SE invisaged. And don't forget video camera capabilities with zoom and low light or an altogether better camera than we have at present which takes up a large portion of the phone. It was a main selling point but seems like an after thought when used. 😞

Jesus. I wish people would stop whinging about a bloody camcorder app and the amout of memory on the phone. It is, at the end of the day, a phone with pda features, and the memory is sufficient for all of that. If you wanna play mp3s or play video or record video or do anything multimedia then get a specific device! Palms and Pocket PCs have similar memory specs, and even if more memory that is to satisfy the demands of the os rather than to provide storage, and they dont get video (unless add-on). Besides the video is likely to be shit quality and youll get bored of it after a week, especially after it costs you 4 to send a video of you getting an american football thrust in your groin to your... er hang on cant send it to anyone cos they dont own a mp4 player...

The camera was included to facilitate MMS cos this is a PHONE not a CAMERA. it doesn't atually add that much size to the device seeing as the screen would need to be the size it is any way.

I think we all yelling for a video and mp3 because the P800 ought to have the capabilities to have such function and its competitors are actually providing similar offers.

I believe that friends in this forum already love their P800s, and those additional gadgets will make us even more satisfy and proud owners of P800.

I toally agree ericchu. The P800 Smartphone is indeed the market leader of mobile phone but also the best possible solution for an integrated phone/pda/organiser. I am most satisfied with how it works and its applications but to realise its full potential there is so much more it can do.

So I do not think it is whinging to hope for video-recording capabilities as well as a fully functional MP3 player. It is more, an expectation that would make an already exceptional product a true market leader.

My suggestion to Sony-Ericsson is take this ball and run with it, support it and make sure that quality applications are produced and people then will realise its true potential.

It would be nice if SE can improve the quality of picture as well as memory capacity. So it will be almost perfect Phone/PDA/Entertainment combination. Then I will be ready to throw my Sony MZ-R900 (MD Recorder/Player).

The real point is that this is still a maturing market. While you are all right, I would not expect to have Sony Ericsson make a significant investment in developing a device no one could or would be willing to afford. The current price tag and technologies available in a couple of years will necessitate what you are asking for, but other add-ons that I cannot even think of now would be requirements.

A commitment from Sony Ericsson to provide extensibility into the future for what you are asking for is about the most you could expect. 😃 😃

hmmm.....if all companies took that attitude, we wouldn't have VCR's, DVD players, Plasma TV's, LCD panels and many, many other technologies.

When the market for new electronic devices is realized it can also come with a substantial investment. Initially the products mentioned were out of reach for all but the wealthiest or true enthusiasts. But as time passed, sales increased, technology got better and manufacturing costs decreased which resulted in the prices dropping to the reach of the masses.

I would have preferred SE to release a much better phone instead of a phone that has many features that don't work too well. In my opionion, they released a half-ass built phone. It has great features but along with it comes bugs and some cheap electronics. The initial release is full of bugs and the sync software was poorly written. To synch with bluetooth, there is an 8 click process (minimum) to get it to work. And through this you get an error msg box every time. Two days ago, my phone's alarm started going off randomly. I don't have any alarms set and no events in the calandar. Even after selecting 'done' after each alarm, it sounds again at random intervals (1-120 minutes). I will have to do a factory reset to try to clear it. The camera quality is also poor. Although adequate for viewing on the cell phone's screen (if there is no movement of your subjects or shakyness of your hands) it could have been better designed to compete with other camera cell phones on the market. The flip is also a poor design. It's a great idea but it was poorly implemented. It's merely a device that utilizes your touchscreen by having you use buttons that are much too hard to push and do not have a good feel to them when you are trying to dial with one hand. A removable electronic flip would have been much better. A flip that has the feel of a regular cell phone's buttons and doens't use the touchscreen but one that can also be removed.

Tech support in the USA is also poor. The SE website is inaccurate, sales doesn't have all the answers to questions about the phone or addons and tech support gives inacurate information about the phone and addons that SE sells.

If I were to rate the SE P800 (taking support into account) after owning it for a few months dealing with the bugs and dealing with thier support and information services I would give the SE P800 a 2 (**) out of 5 (*****) stars.

The P800 is a great start for the future of phones but too many shortcuts were taken to get there and to keep budget costs down.

I would pay twice what I paid for the SE P800 to get a phone that had the same features but that also worked flawlessly and had better electronics.

I don't regret buying the P800 but I do find myself wanting something better. The P800 leaves me frustrated when using it at times. It appears mcalbala was correct in that SE didn't make a significant investment in the phone but mcalbala is incorrect in why it wouldn't be a good idea to make a significant investment. SE is now exposed. Once a phone comes out by a competitor that does what the SE P800 does but doesn't have the problems of the P800, the P800's days are over. SE built a device to have a device on the market with features. SE didn't build a device that would stand the test of time.

thou i agree with all your points. i was kinda hoping this thread wud help me decide whether or not i got a good deal on me contract. in regards to the above quote, the phone is symbian and maybe some people forget that. its not as if you cant create a video recording programe for the p800, ETI is in the middle of making one. as for the memory its comes with 12mb internal 16 external and it is UPGRADEABLE memory. like a few others said if the p800 had more memory it wud be more expensive and im sure not many people wud of been willing to spend anymore than they already hav on there fone.
