prevent crashes....

hi guys,

wanted to know wot is the minimum amt of memory that shud be left on the internal mem to prevent crashes??

thanx.
cheers.

more->better, I would say at least 1mb is a safe amount as during installation of a program or something some context can be installed on C drive and you will suddenly find yourself in a danger situation.

I try to keep C as free as possible and use external memory extensively

I've tested the memory limitation when I purchased my phone a month ago (with only the 16M MSD). I've put lots of pictures and mp3 to fill up both the phone and the MSD, leaving some 200K on both for a day and everything was normal. However, after I installed different software, it crashed in about every 4 days.

So, I guess memory shouldn't cause immediate effect on the phone but other software does. Of course, it's always good to have more memory standby.

I leave about 4MB free on the phone memory and still experience some problems.

Have anyone got answers to these questions for me please.

1. Everytime i switch the phone on, why do i get this message "Running Demo".

2. Whenever i install a new APP, once the installation is complete, why does all the ICONS disappear and i need to restart the phone.

Thanks!!

SHawk,

The dissapearing of Icons in the App list is a well known bug that happens from time to time. It has only happened to me once. Download Sman 1.1.a which is free, this program actually hs a function that restores the Icons back .

Also using this program oyu can see some hidden tasks if you choose to, It's possible that one of your Apps is actually a demo version and oyu need to download the full version.

I also seem to remember that my P800 came with a demo app or file or something. I can't remember for sure because the firt thing I did was take away all videos, Mp3 demo and tutorials to liberate some memory, after all who needs that stuff. Maybe you still have it though and for some reason it's on. You should be able to dissable/erase any such file. Look around with file manager and see how many files are there called DEMO and where they are located. Once oyu find them I would post them here again or under a new topic and someone will be able to tell you if they're safe to erase or not.

ME,

Thanks for your reply,

I will try the Sman1 now.
I did the same as you when I brought phone, i removed the files you mentioned to free space. But i will check again.

Thanks again!!

The free space is only used for storage, there is an seperate 16mb of memory that acts like RAM which you can't install anything to, or even access. So, theoretically if you only had 1k left the phone should function the same. A distinction should be made between the two stores.

I just copy everything to my 128MB duo, don't even touch the internal memory.

So far it's been a very smooth ride with my p800 - and I'm still on 1D firmware!!

Me too.

Just crashes on the first SMS after the 4pm email sync each day,
but other than that its been perfect. 😮

I have recently installed twin bubble and the fruit game (can't remember name at the moment) played demos ok, so i purchased the unlock codes and nevery now and again the phone seems to lock up (flashes a yellow warning triangle and a image of p800) I think its indicating press and hold power button. Anyone else suffer simular problems.
