Hi,

I have a sony laptop with built in bluetooth (Z1SP) and I am able to find the phone and authenticate it, but I am unable to get the phone to connect it to sync, the icon in the taskbar shows that there is no connection. Is it possible to connect via Bluetooth?

Just connect he serial port. How to do it differs depending on whether Bluespace or Bluespace NE, but you'll work it out. Once it is connected, it will give you a COM port number which you then tick in Phone Conenction Link in the task bar.

To fit in the pics, this will be a two part message. Your actual configuration may be slightly different from mine.

In order to get bluetooth synchronization set up you will need to first go through your bluetooth configuration.

On the bluetooth symbol in your system tray, right click, select setup, select configuration.

On the Bluetooth Configuration window that pops up, select the Local Services tab as shown in first picture. Check to make sure you see at least one Bluetooth Serial Port configured. If you don't see one, select the 'add serial device' button. Startup should be 'auto'. Select a COM port from the dropdown list.

On the Bluetooth Configuration window select the Client Applications tab as shown in the second picture. Check to make sure you see at least one Bluetooth Serial Port configured. If you don't see one, select the 'add COM port' button. Select a COM port from the dropdown list.

On the Bluetooth Configuration window select the 'OK' button to commit the changes.

Next, double click the 'Phone connection link' icon in the taskbar. You will recieve a 'Link Properties' window similar to the one shown in the third picture. Select the connection COM Ports that you defined in the Bluetooth Configuration window.

My bluetooth com port is com 4. I used the phone monitor and selected com 4 bluetooth. But I still cannot find the phone . I will have another go this week. Appreciate your advice.

Open Windows Explorer and select 'My Bluetooth Places'. If you see the P800 Bluetooth Serial Port as shown in the first picture then skip the next paragraph.

If you don't see a serial port in bluetooth places, you will need to place your P800 in discoverable mode. On your P800, go to the control panel, connections tab, bluetooth, settings tab and change the operations mode to discoverable. Back to windows explorer and under 'My Bluetooth Places', sleect 'Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood'. Your computer will search for bluetooth devices and list the ones it finds. When it finds the P800, right click on the device and select 'Pair Device'. In the Bluetooth Passkey window that pops up, type in a number (can be a zero) for the passkey. On your phone, you will see a passkey window pop up. Enter the same passkey number. The phones are now paired. Select the P800 in windows explorer. On the right side of the window, right-click 'Bluetooth Serial Port'. Select 'create shortcut'. This will put the connection under 'My Bluetooth Places' for future use.

In windows explorer, select 'My Bluetooth Places' and double-click the bluetooth serial port on the right side. You will see a window pop up as it connects as shown in the first picture. After the Phone is found, it connects then you receive an error window as shown in the second picture. This is normal (for Sony Ericsson).

If everything is working correctly, you will see a P800 icon appear in the system tray. Click on the icon the select 'synch station settings'. Set up the synchronization as desired. Select 'Auto Synchronization' if desired on the second tab. Select 'OK' to close the window and save your settings. Click on the P800 icon in the system tray again and this time select Synchronize.

You should see the Synch window pop up as shown in the third picture. Outlook will display a dialog box to confirm you want to allow a third party program to access it. Select the checkbox and allow access for 5 minutes (time is based on personal preference and how much you need to synch). Select OK and you should start seeing the progress bars increased as in the third Picture.

Hope this helps. 😊

Sony laptops with built in bluetooth dont use My Bluetooth Places, but a proprietry progrma called Bluespace. The theory is the same.
