(didn't know where to post this) ... someone should make a news about this 😉)

check this press release: http://press.nokia.com/PR/200306/906949_5.html

it covers the presentation of new series60 UI, with MIDP 2.0 support!!! and also unveils something of more general interest:
Series 60 now supports Java MIDP 2.0 with the backwards compatibility to the previous MIDP 1.0 version. This support ensures a smooth evolution from existing Java applications to new and richer applications. The Java implementation in Series 60 brings enhanced graphics functionality, Bluetooth APIs, support for various secure HTTP connection types, advanced multimedia APIs, and messaging APIs. And to ensure seamless application usability, Series 60 also uses the same application installer and application menu for Java and native Symbian applications.

The Series 60 Platform has also been enhanced with several other new features that are designed to add value for licensees, developers, and operators, and to further expand the user experience. For example, Series 60 offers expanded possibilities for personalization. A user will be able to switch between different sets of icons, wallpapers, screensavers, background bitmaps, and color schemes offered by an operator or other service portal. For messaging, Series 60 now provides enriched presentation capabilities in MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) through enhanced SMIL.
I'd like to see some new models comming from Nokia. It's been a ling time since they last released the 3650 and I don't think 9210i is the alternative to SE P800. Why don't they come out with something new featuring Symbian 7.0 and MDIP 2.0?...

I think N-Gage will be using "series 60 v2.0", and also probably the phone (6600?) somebody was talking about in other forums here@AAS

btw... today nokia published some PDF's with more informations about v2.0 of S60 but I can't download them from forum nokia

has anyone been able to d/l something from there?

please attach the PDF's here or send to me via email if you can

thank you!
I think N-Gage will be using "series 60 v2.0
No, it will not.

so... is there ANY phone already in project that will use 2.0 ?

and... of course, I imagine that existing phones will NOT have firmware updates with 2.0 implementation...

Do you think Nokia would produce an enhanced version of Series 60 and not have plans for a device using it? 😮

We just have to wait until Nokia are ready to tell us. Personally I'd prefer it if manufacturers did not announce devices until it was a bit closer to the actual release date. The N-Gage will be released getting on for 1 year after it was announced and how long did the P800 take to appear?

well anyway I eventually have been able to download some PDF's ... and...

I discovered that series 60 v2.0 will be based on SYMBIAN OS v7.0s !

check attached files 😉

does this means new phones ahead?

by the way 6600 or whatever you call it is not a series60. at least to my knowledge. correct me if i am wrong... 😉

Here you find a pdf about the differences between series 60 1.0 and 2.0 - i wonder if i will be able to upgrade a 7650 or 3650 to the new platform...

a word/sheet application engine is included in series 60 2.0, as well as support for various network-technologies, like ethernet etc. How about a nokia with wlan? would be cool, maybe for the new communicator!

No, not possible. Each version of the phone software is made only for certain phone model. You cannot flash 3650 firmware to 7650, and also you cannot flash upcoming Series 60 2.0 software to any existing Series 60 1.x phone.

I think these engines are not in Series 60. They may be mentioned in Symbian OS 7.0 documentation but because there is no Word or Sheet application in Series 60, also the engines are left out.
