invalid mobile???

11 replies · 2,462 views · Started 13 June 2003

Hey all, I just picked up my P800 yesterday and I love it. I had a few niggles with it at first but most of my questions had already been discussed on the boards.

However I have got one problem that I couldn't solve (apologies if it's been posted before but it didn't show up in a search)

I intermittently get a message saying 'invalid mobile'.

The phone is still active but I have no network signal. I can use all the applications fine, but no phone usage!! What is up with that?
The only way to get a signal back is to reboot the phone

Anyone else heard of this problem or a fix??

Please help coz apart from that this phone ROCKS

😮

(edit)

I forgot to mention I'm on t-mobile in the UK

Cheers

update

I finally managed to get thru to someone at customer services who actually knows a bit about the phone.

The fix I was given was

1: Remove the battery and sim card whilst the phone is on!! (it specifically says not to do this in the manual LOL)

2: Leave phone off for a few minutes

3: Replace battery and sim

4: Turn Phone on and off a few times

I have done all of the above. Not sure if it worked yet but I'll post up the results.

Being a techie though, I'd still like to know what's going on, so if anyone has any ideas I'd be interested to hear them

😮

How do I find the firmware? Haven't figured that one out yet.

I do have delivery reports available so I'm guessing it's pretty up to date.

I'm still evaluating the fix I was given

So far so good

If u have delivery report then u have atleast r2d or r2f so thats good like bigfeat says it might be a provider prob or even a sim prob u could ask ur provider to suply u with a new sim that might solve the prob

Yeah I was thinking the sim too.

If it carries on I'll try changing it

Cheers Guys

Ok above fix doesn't work. Phone was OK for a while but now it's started again

Apparently it's not specific to the p800, some nokias suffer from this problem too all on T-mobile UK.

The new fix is (more a workaround till they sort the network)

control panel -> Connections -> Internet A/c -> Other -> Change preferred mode to GSM only

Once the network is sorted I was told my settings would be put back to normal automatically

😉

I have been in contact with T-Mobile regarding this problem and they assure me it is a Network problem that only affects SE devices.
It should be cured in a couple of days.
Apparently, it's something to do with devices logging on twice and throwing all the surrounding ones out of whack.
Nearly swapped a perfectly good handset until they admitted it was their network at fault.

Dave Hutchinson 😃

OK, this actually works. The nice folks at T-Mobile told me to go to Control Panel...Connections...Internet Accounts...Other, then select GSM only.
This ensures that when the phone logs on after a Network drop, it doesn't automatically connect to GPRS.
However, if you use Picture Messaging, Internet or WAP and they need GPRS, it will connect with no trouble.
I did this and haven't had the fault since.
SE and T_Mobile are finding a long term fix.

Hope this helps

Dave

I've been told that is the correct message you should get if your phone has been disabled via the IMEI, such as would happen if the phone had been reported stolen. Every time a sim is placed in the phone it will make contact with the network, log your approximate location (via the number prefix) the number of the sim, etc. They don't currently plan to track and prosecute people, but you never know what will happen in the future.

If you bought the phone legit then I have no idea. That information is I have to admit second hand, but the source I have it from should be well informed (no I cannot say where they work).

I had that answer when I asked what would happen if someone tried to use the phone I had recently had stolen from me, now that I have reported it to the networks.

Keep your IMEI. If its nicked, report it. 70% of all street crime involving violence involves a mobile phone.

Thats about all my soapbox can stand 😮ops:

yo, how m uch did you et it on tmobile for?

i just bought mine today on everyone200 (29 quid a month) and got the handset for 149.99, it was originally 179.99 (off carphone warehouses web offer) but it came down in price again today to a hundred and fifty quid.
