Struck by a lightning

This thread included a poll: Ever had trouble with thunderstrikes?

We had a thunderstorm yesterday evening. I thought I was prepared cause it had happened before and the computers now are behind an UPS. A couple years ago they weren't (za-zoom, all went blank and alot of parts had to be replaced) and I learned a lesson. I thought.

So a lightning struck again and za-zoom, internet went blank. Evidently the adsl-router was not secured...

Now I'm using an old modem and getting very annoyed... I guess a trip to a computer store will take place today

Have you guys similar experiences? Please share and make me feel better

It's not happened to me, but I do have a UPS on my system at home just in case. Also, before we had a new cooker, our trip switch would trip, and then trip again only seconds after re-enabling it. This has cause one of my hard drives to trash (Yeah? Crazu eh?), so the UPS protects me from that.

Oh my God! I am glad that you are ok. Of course I'm glad for the computers as well.

I never wished to God that I'm a liar like I'm wishing at this moment so that I can come up with a story about thunderstrikes in roder to help make you feel better.

Sorry Laura, I never had a similar experience but I will consider next winter when it rains to stand on the roof and pray for thunder to strike me so that I can have a story to tell you.

Hey guys, nobody freaks out, I was kidding.

:shocked!: :shocked!:  :shocked!: :shocked!:  :shocked!: :shocked!:

I had a really weird experience once.I was snacking in my living room while the computer was doing a batch job of compiling couple of apps. The living room window was open as the front door was. While I was cheerfully destroying the home population of sweets I saw I bright white like come through the window and exit through the front door.I said I saw the light because it had some kind of a snake like shape.

My computer and all the electronic devices in my house were running fine.Later that day I found out that in the same time I saw the light show in my living room a lighting had struck a metal poll which the neighbours dog was tied on.The dog was killed. 😮

Just an update: we now have a new adsl router, but guess what - it does not work  The configurations are a mess  So I'm still using a stupid old modem and wondering how I could ever live without a broadband earlier 😃

Keep those stories coming, I feel a lot better already. But you don't have to get electricuted for that, ok? 😃

in kuwait we pray for rain only
today it waas 47 c
if there was thunder & rain you would see every person in kuwait dancing it the rain
this is only the begining of summer.......

Jippyaiee 😃 😃 We have a broadband !!!
Those miserable service providers had forgotten to provide us with correct username+password combination plus the new configuration instructions were all wrong... but now it works like a song 😃 I am soooooo happpyyyyy 😃

@Ghosdog: I certainly recommend this option as a therapy against any suicidal tendencies. I mean working broadband, not the un-working one...
Broadband, here?A song pops in to mind: Dream on,dream on....
Dream On, Dream Away,
I think I`m gonna have to stay 😃
