Exiting new software: Quickword for series 60

Nobody on this forum seems to notice that there is an exiting new software for series 60 smartphones. I am speaking of Quickword. It is made by Cutting Edge Software, well known for their Quickoffice suit of programs for Palm Operating system.

Quickword allows the user to read (view) word .doc files on its series 60 smartphone like my nokia 3650. It converts some of the most important formatting.

I just got the trial version from handango and IMHO this is one of the most important developments for our smartphones. It takes them a huge step further in the direction of being serious business tools. Now you can receive MS word .doc files as email attachments or in any other way and you can read them on your phone!

Not that I like MSs proprietary file formats but they are to some degree standart in offices all around the world. And I cannot expect others to fulfill complicated file conversion for me to read their messages.

And with this new software there is no longer any problem! The originator of a message can just use its usual software and its my turn to enable me to be able to read his massage by using quickword.

What could be better:
- Quickword could be an editor and not just a viewer (we can always dream ... I dont want to write long texts on my nokia 3650; but it would be fine to be able to correct drafts an email the corrected version an an answer.)
- Screen layout and usage could be improved (more information on one screen)

Now, I think its a nice beginning and I am looking forward to see more of parts of quickoffice on series 60 phones.

Dieter

PS: I have nothing to do with Quickword producers, Cutting Edge Software.

Hi

If you want to advertise your new software - just advertise it!
No need to make out your a user that 'found' this great software.

I think most of us here would appreciate the honest approach and you just say you've released some new software you think we might like to look at 😉

Thanks for letting us know anyways, I'll go check iy out 😊

Will.
as a 7650 user, i have to ask how big is the app?
The .sis is about 118 KB, installation size is about 280 KB.

Hi,

I do not take this as you saying that my message was a dishost approach, otherwise I would like you to apologize.

As I did say in clear words: I do not have anything to do with the producers of this software, I am just a interested user and want to point other users to this software. Perhaps we could discuss its benefits and its faults and encourage the producer to better them. At this moment I do not even know whether the producer reads this forum.

Did you get this working? When I start Quickword, there's first the "Trial days left: 5" dialog. From the main menu I choose "Open". Nothing happens!

If I try to press anything, Quickword crashes with an error message:

Application closed
Quickword
EIKON-LISTBOX 5

I have the 7650, firmware v4.39 and I downloaded a trial version of Quickword from My-Symbian.com.

does Avantgo open word documents?

Yes of course. AvantGO open every printable documents.
Excel, Word, PoverPoint, PDF, Postcript, .....

Avantgo seemed to take up 1.4MB of my RAM when launched! Now I've got to manage my RAM a little more. 😞 Wish it can have smaller footprint.

Is there any software out there that can convert RAM on the memory card and let the OS use it like the flash RAM? Like virtual memory sort of thing would be good.

Thanks GhostDog. Actually I should have done a search in the forum first b4 asking that. 😛

Nokia should try an exclusive market to let the customer choose what they want in a phone. Make it like lego set so that we can mix and match in whatever combinations. It will be an engineering and marketing challenge! Anyway, will dream on...
