Is it possible?
I have downloaded some movies from a website for/about Nokia 3650, but the realoneplayer can't play them....
Must I have a program to play them, if so which program?
mp4 on my Nokia 3650
They can be played with older version of HantroCP - the video recorder which is not freely available 😞
I wonder why noone even tried to code a mp4 player only 😮
The videos need to be in rm (Real Media format) or 3gp file format. You can find videos already in these formats or encode mpeg4s or other formats to these formats using coverter programmes such as PVAuthor, Real Producer or Helix Producer.
It Works for me MP4 using Hantro full screen landscape mode, 3GP and/or Realmedia as well. No problem quality is not excellent but above tolerable.
I think, using basic converor(from Nokia PC suite),at that time is not terrible, and the quality after convertation is NOT so bad.

There has been a lot misunderstandings with these standards,I'm confused too,3gp and rm are not the only mpeg4 extensions.Older version of Hantro,3.3 and below used .mp4 to encode videos,PVauthor uses the same and like i said .mp4 can only be played with older versions of Hantro which is not freely available and can not be played with the official video recorder from Nokia.
Try playing a PVauthor encoded video with Nokia's video recorder.

I've tried it once, and its on the bottom of my list. For .3gp you might have better results using Nokia's multimedia converter, not my favourite personally. There are not much options you can play with.
Although the video size option in PVauthor is very limited(I don't know about the full version) its better then the previous two but like I said in my previous post, the .mp4 player is a problem.
The Basic version of Helix Producer is too crippled for my taste so I don't think I'll buy the full version.
I don't have a clue about VirtualDub too.I've read in couple of threads that it can encode mp4,I'll look in to it the next couple of days if I have some free time.

hm,yea i see the sutuation with converting movies for 3650 is not good,(i mean a lot of convertion soft is NOT free.)
Well on the internet, people dont usually pay for things. If they did, 99% of the people with helix plus would not own it. Just my 2 cents
I don't own Helix Plus because i don't like the trial form of Helix Basic. If Helix Produced Plus had some kind of a time trial form, without cirppling app's features i might've bought it.
I have used both Helix Producer Plus (as well as Real Producer 8.0--its predecessor for Real Player Codec 8.0) and PVAuthor. I would have to sa for encoding mpg files to 3gp, PVAuthor seems to do the trick and is the easiest and most stable program to use.
i have a problem. I have downloaded the nokia multimedia converter and i have problem in the install as far as i have heard i must download a java thing or sth like that where can i get that from?
You'll need java runtime. You can get it from java.sun.com
Back to the subject. In one of my previus posts i've stated that there has been a lot of confusion with mp4 and 3gp file extension.
From Nokia Developer Newsleter:
* Clarification
In our May 20 issue, an article titled "A Report from Nokia's Mobile
Video Conference" gave the impression that Nokia's terminals do not
support MPEG-4 video and the MP4 file format. Actually, Nokia video-
enabled terminals do support the playback/decoding of H.263 baseline
and MPEG-4 video inside 3GP files, as mandated in the 3GPP and 3GPP2
codecs specifications. The MP4 file format is also supported, as long
as the media content of the file falls within the recommendations of
the 3GPP/3GPP2 standards. A statement in the same article describing
MP4 formats as "bulky and unreliable" was the opinion of a third-party
developer attending the workshop and was misattributed to Nokia. We
apologize for the confusion.
-Nokia Developer NewsLetter end-
Does anyone know what are the 3GPP/3GPP2 remmendations.I still can't encode file with PVauthor that can be played with Nokia's Video Recorder.I guess that they can be viewed with PVplayer for 7650/3650 but 16$ for just a player that does not even have a trial,i don't think so.
can anyone suggest me the best settings to use to convert with pvauthor 3? 😃
