Help!! Corrupt files..

13 replies · 2,466 views · Started 23 June 2003

I cant seem to uninstall or install anything on my p800. When I uninstall something it gives me an error saying "corrupted file" and when I install something on the PC it tells me that "cannot install because file may be corrupted" 😞

Anyway, im having my phone flashed tom, is there any easy way to be able to save my contact folders? 😞 Syncing with outlook wont restore the folders..

Can someone post the zip technique again and what specific zip utility to use..

Just an update had to reinstall everything again..

question:
Is it possible to copy contacts.cdb from P800's drive c and copying it to a fresh system? I mean people have been doing this using the backup but whatabout the actual drive c:

Restoring a backup should restore everything(except voice notes). And if you have some corrupt file(s) in the system, flashing the firmware shouldn't be necessary. A simple format would resolve it(jog dial up * down down * down *).

Is there away to preserve the contacts folders?

A restore should normally restore all your contacts.. I don't remember the "zip trick" you mentioned(just extracting the contacts folder from the backup), sorry.. But that should be possible as well, and I think it's mentioned before in this forum.. 😊

What's the different between the reset at jog dial up and the control panel's Master Reset?

Are they making the same function of hard reset?

Ok tried copying contacts.cdb to the c folder on the system>data folder and it wont allow you to do it so I guess the back up thing is the only way..

Basically a format is more thorough than a master reset. A format brings the device to a factory reset where the whole file structure gets recreated to the condition it was when you first got it. A master reset doesn't work this way and it doesn't delete all the files or clear the file system structure. It only clears databases, system files, 3rd party files and applications, settings etc, but doesn't physically reformat the disk and some files are still there.

I did the format thing once before when I had a corrupt file and some wierd errors, in which case the format completely solved the problem. So, in my case a master reset would NOT have had the same effect.

U can do this only when u acces the phone with pc file manager in flight mode that way the contact.cdb is not protected

<copy My-symbian.com>
Start the program PC FILE MANAGER ( u can use a free evaluation copy - download from my-sybmian)

again START making a new backup, BUT When you see the P800 saying "backup in Progress" Cancel the Backup. BUT DONT START THE PHONE, LEAVE IT ON THE CRADE AS IT IS.

Doing so allows you to USE the PC File manager to control the P800 and be able to copy what ever u need. </copy my-symbian.com>

Today i was lucky enough (yeah right) for my phone to tell me that my file system was corrupt and the internal disc needed a reformat, it did it and now i have restored the last backup (i make one every 7 days) it works ok so far! just lost the pic of one of my mates

Do you have to do all this or just put the phone in flite mode? 😊

Forget what I just asked cause I tried it and you can still control your phone 😊

I have problems restoring previous backups back to the phone.

After a normal backup, I was playing with the camera a took a bit too many photos so that the storage became full. Because of that, the phone crashed when I received a normal voice call. When I restarted the phone I got something like "Detected a corrupted internal file system, disk is now beeing formatted" [Continue].
After the format, I tried to restore the latest backup, but it says it fails to restore.
Anyone with a good solution to this? (except bying a larger memory card 😊

U could make copy of the backup file rename it 2 ????.zip unpack then use the above procedure 2 copy back most imp files
