Is this what we need to do our own firmware updates?

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/1506.htm

If not, what is is used for does anyone know please.

I already know where to get the firmware its self.... and quicker than the service center seem to get it.

Jimmy, with respect, that does not answer my question sir, do you know the answer or do you just talk for the fun!
😮

Ok cheers pal.
Any idea what this lead would be for then??

Ta 😊

Hi,

If you can get the newest firmware and have access to a DCT4 unit (I think it's called that) you can upgrade yourself.
However the equipment you need is very expensive, so not everyone will be willing to buy it or can buy it for that matter.
If Nokia can upgrade it then we sure can with the right equipment.
I always understood it was more of the lack of software, eg. the firmware which stops us upgrading ourself as the hardware is available easily.

Yes it's a start, but you also need more software and hardware to update the firmware. Clever 'hackers' sell kits that can do this (probably a copy/reverse-engineer of the Nokia flash units..) do a search for 'griffin' in google. These are not that cheap and unless you really know what you are doing then you will totally mess up your phone. Unless you are really, really desparate I would recommend going to a Nokia service center for upgrades.

Because service centers only use the firmware once it has been (quite !) thoroughly tested and approved. Use beta firmware at your own risk..
