Does anyone know what to do when the phone won't start because of a Disk Full error? My phone was pretty full and I forgot to charge it so when I woke, the battery was dead. Eventually, I had enough juice in it to power it up but it hangs after I put the SIM and device locks in. It says 'Disk Full' and then hangs at the Sony Splash screen.
Any ideas on how to reset?
put the flip on, and it'll show the flip display, then use the master reset, i can't remember it, it's up, star, down star down star i thinkbut it'd be best if you serached for the code, when my phone hanged on the sony splash screen, i the flip bit still worked

Mmmm, tried that, thanks. But didn't work. Called SE and they said the only way to fix it was to get it reset by a service centre. What a pain, but at least I'll get the latest version of code.
Basically there doesn't seem to be any way to reset the phone other than SW and as I can't get the phone OS loaded I'm screwed.
Yes, it really is a shame there's no way of doing a hard-reset..
One thing though that has worked for some is to remove the battery and leave it out for a while, reinsert the battery and power ON. -Repeat this procedure as many times as needed, and eventually the device might power ON correctly, most likely diplaying a file corrupt error and that a format will be done.
A device like the P800 really should have a "hard-reset" function...

Well guess what!! The secret code did not work at first, but I tried again and managed to get it to work: thanks nk8!
The secret:
When I powered on I was first prompted for Phone On/Off or Flightmode, after selecting On or Flightmode I was prompted to input the SIM lock. This is where the secret code will work - it will not work if you go on and enter the PIN as it will then say 'Disk Full' and then hang.
Then its an easy step to select 5 Format and reformat the hard disk. Then you can restore a backup.
BTW the code is actually U*DD*D*

i think that there should be an app that will reset the phone from the PC, like as soon as it's switched on, like with remotep800, but just without needing to launch the application (as you wouldn't be able to if your phone was hanging in the splash screen)

Good idea; if the phone understands restarting in 'backup' and 'restore' modes, it would be cool to have a "safe" mode that starts up in zero or limited memory but exposes the internal file system to the PC.
You could then delete things remotely.
SE if you are listening...
Hard Reset is a feature every smartphone should have.Only Symbian device capable of this is the communicator(i think).I guess that if hard reset was available the bigest problem with the device would be loss of data which is not all that serious if you backup your device often enough, anyway,it would save all of us a lot of trips to the service centres and headaches.
You guys are right. A hard reset button would have been nice. Anyway something like this happened to me once and removing the battery somehow fixed it 😊
I seem to remember the R380 had a hard reset button tucked away under the battery. One of those ones you need a pin to push. Kinda assumed the P800 would have something similar.
A couple more Kb's and it could have been a different story. I didn't even get the Flight/Phone mode option, only the SE White screen
