Abusive language in the forums

21 replies · 6,048 views · Started 03 July 2003

It has become obvious over the last few days and weeks that the attitudes of certain members are becoming less and less civil when responding to particular members.

I would now like to remind you of the rules that you agreed to when posting on All About Symbian forums:

The summary and important points are no warez or other illegal software are to be discussed, linked to or posted on this forum. Secondly please be civil when dealing with each other. Behave towards others as you would have them behave towards you. Please read the full rules before posting.

You see that message every time you post a message. Please abide by these rules.

Also, at http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/phpBB2/rules.php, it states the following (phrases applicable have been highlighted in bold):

Do not post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). All About Symbian is for discussing Symbian related matters, the exception is the Community Waffle forum, posts in this forum may be off topic, but should not be inflammatory or abusive towards other forums members.

The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. In deciding how to behave please bear in mind that the best general guideline we can give you with regard towards behaviour towards others is treat others as you would have them treat you.

Please now abide by these rules, as I for one, am getting particularly fed up of visting the Nokia 3650 forum to find threads which have descended into abusive language towards particular members.

IP addresses are logged, so it is still possible to find out who people are, even though they resort to posting under Guest accounts to hide their real user name.

It is also advised that you only post if you have something informative to say, and not to post for the sake of posting.

Please sort it out people, get along in harmony.

Thank you for reading.

I do welcome this reminder. In fact I was more than a little bit sorry that my attempt to post some serious facts and opinion had found its unexpected end when some certain folks started to f*ck themselves up on a verbal base... Though I definitely do _NOT_ agree with that rude language shown up, to me it seems obvious that your russian forum member draws major attention on himself by reacting childish, immaturely and in a - to put it in careful words - a computable manner when speech comes to him. Maybe a ban for him would be the only solution to get things back in order here, however besides taking legal actions against the offensive anonymous poster.

Regards
landmark

P. S.: Please feel free to post my IP adress if there's need to prove that I'm _not_ the offensive poster.

hey landmark, you understand what you are talking about 😮 do you,.....Those guys became to post bad posts firstly..AND YOU also posted BAD lanuage post..

2ALL(especially moderators),GUYS, i know why all these guests posted bad posts, especially about me,BECAUSE,they want me to answer them bad post too,and they WANT me to GET BAN.

The future of whether or not Guest posters are allowed to post is a decision that is to be made by the Administrators of All About Symbian. Their decision is final, and we must respect that decision.

Please, if you see anybody acting abusive towards another member, simply push the Blue button, and wait. Do not post in retaliation, as this will only lead to further insults.

Today, I received around 5 post reports in around two or three minutes. Please guys, stop behaving so rudely towards each other.

I just want to state that I agree with j2k 100%.When I first joined AAS was friendly and open minded community and in its true spirit,it still is.There are members and guests that are doing their best to change that but I can promise you that we'll do our best to prevent it and keep AAS happy and interesting place for all of us.

Just to re-iterate the point made by j2k. Some people are sailing close to the wind.

Woth regards to Guest posting that is soemthign I decided to allow. The decision is periodically reviewed. However although you wont see me moderating in an active way obvsiouly one of the major things I do is keep an eye on Guest Post IP addresses. I have had to contact people from time to time.

Please be civil to each other. The moderators do a super job, please dont make it any harder for them than absolutely necessary.

If you feel a person has been particularly abusive and / or a member of the forum has treated you unfairly (whether moderator or not) you are welcome to contact me personally on [email protected]
HELLO BIG CHIEFRAFE,i want you to appear, thanks, now i know, how to be.
Hmm, although you do present a valid statement Jimmy, it is rather worrying that it appears that you only now know "how to be" on the forums after Rafe has told you, yet many moderators have also told you this previously, but it seems you've ignored what we said?

Anyway, lets not cause an argument, and lets be a happy community once again on AAS 😃

Believe me, although I might not always appear I am nearly always watching. My nick name isn't Quite Big Brother for nothing. And you should know that in my alter ego as Harry Potter I know some wizard magic....

moderator... when i clicked the forum rule link.... page not found error....

I think if some people were to stop prattling on, answering posts just for the sake of it and giving completly false information and answers to the newbies, and winding everybody else up, then a lot of the members would not be angered enough to swear at them - and we'd all get along in harmony 😊

Also things get a little out of hand when 'guests' come on asking for Warez and when we say no they start abusing us and swearing at us - it's just too tempting to answer these a##h###s back with more abuse!

Just my 2 penneth.. I'll behave in future.. 😮ops:

Will.

Now, hopefully peace can be restored to the forum 😊
