What Do You Want For Your 9210
the ssh client for the 9210 from www.ssh.com ... was free If i remeber correct ... doesn't that have a telnet option?
Actually, it unfortunately costs ~$150 USD. I've searched, but haven't been able to find a free ssh or telnet client.

An useful app, and maybe easy to code for a C or OPL programmer, could be one that silently calls the AVAIL program (which can be found in the SDK Cd-rom) with user-defined parameters (i.e. I would use "compress all heaps" and not send the output to the screen) during operating system boot, and leaves it automatically run in the background.

This way, memory would be efficiently compressed while the Commi is used, at some seconds intervals, without user intervention.

Also, a Desk app substitute could be useful as well: in my machine, for example, Desk consumes about 400 k of memory, maybe because it carries a lot of program and document links.

Another hand app would be the 9210 equivelant of TreeSize, so you can see what size all the directories on your MMC are without haveing to CTRL-P each of them and you can see what's eating up your MMC.

Just a thought...

How about a time-tracker app? Something that allows you to record the amount of time spent on multiple, discrete tasks. Useful for contractors who need to keep track of how much time they have spent working on stuff for each of their clients separately.

How about a TTS caller-ID?In other words, when you receive a call, in addition to your phone ringing, the 92xx would "read" the caller's name to you using text-to-speech voicing.

I like those last two a lot . . . also, how about something to allow you to record phone calls as a WAV file . . . great for legal purposes!!!

I think you can already record phone calls when on Hands Free using the built in Record application. And as long as you say, "btw the 9210 is recording this" then it's all 100% legal.

What would be really useful is an app that will record 5 or 10 seconds behind the conversation with a buffer. That way if something is said, you've got a short space of time to hit the 'store the last thing said' hotkey combination

I don't think there's such a need for a secure terminal program: the Mocha telnet works really well for SSH1 logins, & is much cheaper than the official SSH/F-Secure terminal clients (there's no time limit on the demo version either, you just get nag screens).

HOWEVER, one thing that I've really found lacking is the existence of a secure file transfer program that's SCP compatible. I'm not aware of any secure-shell FTP program at all, commerical or otherwise, and most of the networks at my workplace no longer permit simple FTP.

The other thing that's really missing is a Powerpoint editor of some description.

I'd also personally really like to see a mini HTML editor program, like a baby FrontPage or DreamWeaver, but that sounds like a Big Job to me...

I've tried both and they are both crap, even in HTML edit mode dreamweaver still changes my code when it saves it.... grrrrr. I'd personally like a general purpose Programmers Editor with syntax highlighting for HTML/XML/C/C++/ASM and I suppose some others would like highlighting for OPL and similar languages. Something similar to Programmer's File Editor would me cool (I forget the url for it now :-?)

I think there's a need for a more robust, feature rich version. The F-Secure version just takes up too much memory, but has the critical feature of secure port forwarding. If you're trying to check work email, where plain-text passwords just aren't allowed, it's an absolute requirement.

Ah yes - hadn't thought of the port forwarding issue - you're absolutely right. And the derisory comment about Dreamweaver's code is well made - yes, a general programming editor of some sort would probably do. I'd still love to get my SCP program, though! 😉

You could always save each contacts name as a WAV and use that as the ring tone.

N9210 -

Yeah, I thought of that. Three problems . . . 1) That would be VERY time consuming. 2) That would take a lot of space recording all those voice notes 3) What happens when someone calls that you have not recorded a voice not for?

If it were TTS it could announce the phone number, or say, "Caller unkown".

i want to use .ram files as a ringtone.. is that possible to make?
coz i's using wav song as a ringtone, every wav file is at least 1.8 MB.
Thanks

why not crop your .wav song file into few seconds... it's almost not possible to hear a full 3 minute .wav ringtone when someone calls u, right?

:P

Here's what I want . . . a friggin' way to SYNC WITH MAC OS X!

The 9290 uses SyncML . . . OS X's iCal, Address Book and iSync use SyncML . . .

ARGGGGG

ER5 <> ER6 file converters is a hotly demanded area for people/organisations with both ER5 and ER6/7 devices, in particular Word, Sheet, txt (plain ASCII <> Unicode), and Data.

EWAN, are you still with this topic?

I wish what I wanted first time when I opened my 9210 for the fist time:

BackGroun Changer (with options for 10 minutes, 1 h, 3 h, daily)

ER5 had a program called Macro 5, which allows you to assign an application/directory/file to a panel, which contaned 26 odd buttons. You had four panels.

I used to use this alot, as you popped it up with Fn=H and then press the character ie: a for the application you wanted.

Very cool.

I would really really like someone to port one of the psion Series 3/5/Revo applications for Tide Tables to the 9210.

I would also like marine navigation software, complete with interface for LAM-1 GPS.

I can't find anybody who has any near term plans for either.

Yes it sounds silly but I don't think its impossible to produce software to allow a mouse to control the interface of the 9210.

Its like a small laptop so I am sure someone can produce a little mouse for it as long as the OS has support for it. Hmm this could be an interesting little electronics project.

Anyway What do you think of this idea. possible or fantasy?

I would also like a visual development environment for OPL on the communicator. Something like Delphi or VB.

And as for games I would love to see a Cannon Fodder clone for the 9210.

Well you asked for ideas 😉 😃

Its my first post here so keep the flames to a minimum 😮ops: 😉

I like it..! i wish they can develop a MOUSE for the 9210 :turn-l:
MORE RAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes of all things more RAM is always the top priority.
