car kits?

Hi guys. I'm buying a new car next week and was wondering about car kits. Jaguar will install a hidden Nokia under the front armrest (for all you car thiefs out there) and I'd need another SIM from Vodafone on the same number. Aparently when my master SIM is off (i.e. my P800) all calls are automatically transferred to the in-car system (controlled from the steering wheel). The problem is they want to charge around 800 for the privilege and whilst it's not a lot compared to the 30K asking price I think they're taking the piss a bit. I was considering using my HBH 60, but would really like the speaker phone/stereo muting features you get with a normal car kit. Any suggestions? How about the SE bluetooth car kit - is this any good (or is it AS good as a normal car kit)? It looks the biz but I'd appreciate any advice. Is there going to be a proper P800 stand alone car kit (non-BT)?
Thanks,
James

I've Merecedes E200 with Nokia carkit, and BMW 525i with Motorola carkit, I don't use any carkit for the P800.

I cant get 2 SIMs for the same number, so I had to get 2 new numbers for the cars 😃

you have 2 option here, get a SE HCB-30 BT car-kit which supports audio muting. 2nd option is to look for a kit call SIM Magic II or SIM Max. With this kit you can have up to 12 numbers programmed into this master sim card. It is very useful for those using factory fitted car-kit which requires sim to be inserted into the car phone.

Hope this helps.

Have the standard SE advanced hands-free kit fitted in two cars. I had the T68i holders fitted originally but bought two HH32 ones for my P800. The old ones unclipped and had the P800 ones clipped in 2 minutes. I have been using my P800 kits with excellent results ever since. I have a Bluetooth Headset too because one car is a convertible. I though about a full Bluetooth car kit BUT you cant clip the phone in so you cant read sms messages etc. Also I use Traffic-i for M25 traffic information on the P800; it is outstanding and a killer app if ever there was one for the UK motorist. So a full Bluetooth set limits some of the excellent functionality of the P800. At the end of the day you pay your money and take your choice.

By the way. I only know of Vodaphone in the UK offering a Multi-SIM card on the same number. I had them and they were ok BUT you cant use GPRS with them. I never did find out why but in the end I gave up and went back to one number.

I hope the above helps. 😮

Hi Bob,
Not seen Traffic-i on P800, but use it on my 3650 and have to agree it's fantastic application, saved me from a few traffic jams.

great application www.traffic-i.com

have the ericsson BT car kit thought it would be great (cost enough) and mostly it works well. Have it wired into an Audi A4 (replaced my nokia 6310i kit) but i have a few problems/questions
1 The units dont stay paired so when making or recieving a call it has to repair first
2 cos of 1 above the phone cannot go into car mode my nokia used to know it was in the car and bring the lights on and mute radio immediatly there is a delay with my new mega expensive phone and car kit
3 doesnt always pair properly so when an incoming call comes in i have to pick it up on the phone

I was wondering if there is a way to short the connectors on the bottom of the unit to make it stay in car mode and stay paired to the BT car kit, or is it something im gonna have to wait for SE to fix and buy another 170 quid car kit????
