HongKong Smartone Users - Be careful with Smartone Biz

Hi

I was at the Smartone shop just now and thought that their Smartone Biz facility sounds pretty cool - GPRS news, live video cam feed of traffic cameras etc.

So the sales guy installed it on my P800 and was in the process of showing me what it can do when suddenly my touch screen refused to respond to any input - I mean zilch!

We suspect it's the Smartone software, which I didn't like the way it boot up my phone with Smartone's own start up screen instead of the P800 default and does not seem to be anyway to change that.

Tried everything that he or I am aware of to reset the phone - nothing works including the 10sec reset. And because the touch screen won't respond, can't even do a master reset. Strangely this also happened to a friend who was with me when he bought the P800c but his problem went away somehow.

So now I have a dead phone in the shop, which the sales guy apologised profusely and promised to get SonyE to fix it tomorrow morning and personally deliver it back to me - without Smartone Biz. Good thing I just did a backup today.

So, install at your own risk.

as it sounds like it's totally their fault, you should try and get something outta it, like free something or another 😃

WOW...sounds like a crap way to go man...well you can always change to Sunday, like me and apply for thier unlimited GPRS for only $38 a month...SUNDAY is pretty cheap and is quite good and reliable...

This is a punish for you.Next time if you want to get a free lunch you need to backup your personal data first...
Mrs.Tung Said"Really need Backup...Backup.....Backup you personal data." oops

I did backup my data. And Smartone loaned me another P800 while they get SonyE to repair my P800.

Smartone said that SonyE checked my phone and told them that there's a problem with my circuit board. What a coincidence. Anyway, seems it'll take at least a couple of weeks to get the phone fixed. Meanwhile, I'm using the loaner and gave myself an excuse to buy a T610!

Now, if SonyE was right, then Smartone was innocent. The only reason I can think of for this to happen is that I got SonyE to change my P800 to the gray version. Hey, if SonyE can screw up changing a case, I strongly suggest that you avoid the 3rd party casing and changing it yourself. You have no chance of getting it right!

Now, I wonder if the Tungs happened to visit the SonyE service centre while they were servicing my phone....

It is very unlikely that any software can wreck your phone. It may mess everything up but you should be able to hard reset it at least.

So I think this is more likely a phone problem than the Smartone software.
