Reverting Back to Original Settings

I have read this somewhere but I couldnt find the thread again, its about getting ur P800 to the original settings as when you buy it.

I want to reset my P800 to the original factory settings, and restore a part of the backup eg. just the contacts. is it possible or am i dreaming.

Oh btw i got my P800 upgraded today to R2F.

Thanx
Vishal

It depends if you want to reset to how it was when you got it (with any operator logo's, settings, start-up animations etc) or to a full "clean" state.

If you want the former, just go to the control panel and select the "Master Reset" option (about eight items down I think).

For the latter, you need to, again, go to the control panel and choose format disk, then choose the C: drive.

Restoring just the contacts is possible but very difficult and I wouldn't recommend relying on it. Would it not be possible to synch your contacts with a clean (i.e. empty) Outlook (or whatever PIM you use) contact db before hand, then re-synch afterwards?

Turn the Jog dial up * down down * down * -select option number 5 - Format internal disk. Do this in flip closed mode, and turn the jog dial only one step at the time.

Isn't restoring only your contacts database very simple?:

- backup your 'messed up' p800
- reformat p800
- backup your clean P800
- locate the most recent backup .ECS file (please refer to backup app|options for location)
- rename .ECS file to .ZIP file
- replace contacts.cdb in ZIP file with your version of contacts.cdb (from previous backup of messed up p800)
- rename .ZIP file back to .ECS
- restore your most recent backup.

In theory it's (relatively) simple. In practice, people on here have had problems. Some meaning that they just can't do it. I remember one guy was having access issues when recreating the backup file in that his PC wouldn't let him write to it. I wouldn't want someone to clear there device relying on the fact that they could restore just the contacts db and then not be able to do so! I suppose it's a case of "Try it at your own risk" 😊

But yes, you're right. That is the gist of it.

Well things were going just fine the back up was smooth, unfortunately the Restore messed up !!
any thoughts
