bets on Nokia releasin a new 9210i replacement b4 the year end?
NEW 9210i replacement!!!!1
From your mouth to god's ears 😊
I highly doubt that happening. The romours are that Nokia were developing a new communicator (More then one even) but they've delayed (stoped?!?) developement because of the rising smartphone market.
I still hope its not true.
ain't 9210i a smartphone, so why ave Nokia stopped developing, I think they've started and we'll ave info on one towards the end of yr.
You didn't get my point, did you?
Because of the rising smartphone market PDA sales went down, meaning, large percent of the PDA buyers switched to smartphones ending up with a very small (if any) PDA market mostly ruled by PPC devices.
I really hope Nokia comes up with a communicator successor preety soon but, like i said,i highly doubt it.
yes I did get ur point! And i can;t see NOKIA "NOT" developin a 9210i replacement, why would they want to stop producing a phone that has no other rival, they ave a 100% monopoly on the this market, if u think otherwise recommend a phone that can match the 9210i! 😮
I just hope to see a new communicator soon! 😃

As you know the 92XX is a PDA/Phone Combo and i think it can be classed a lot more in the PDA group then in the phone group.Like i said in my previous post a large share of the PDA users switched to smartphones which means a lot of 92XX users switched to smartphones which means very small or no market for a new communicator.A preety big reason to stop or delay a product if you ask me.
The romour was that the communicator successor was scheduled for the end of this year, like you said.IMHO,i don't see that happening.

Hmmmm... I don't think I agree with that at all. The Communicator always had businesspeople as the target market, not teenagers who play games and take pictures. They [businesspeople] couldn't care less about smartphones: they don't need a cheap low-quality digital camera, they need a larger keyboard, and most importantly, they need compatibility with MS Office, all of which are Communicator's strongest selling points. Did you know that the 9210 sold more units in Europe than Pocket PC and Palm combined?

Wow!
What is the buzz then?
😉
Problem here esperado is that the business person PDA market (the communicator's target) is a lot smaller than the smartphone market. Hence why the delay in manufacture.

Were did you get the figures ?
I see a real lot of communicators going around in my country, and I bet that 90% of the owners would buy the new one!
Just a thought that came up by going around... 😉
I for one would buy the new one!The problem is i see a LOT more Nokia 7650/3650 and p800 users then i see communicator users.
i think heres the deal... business people would prefer the 9210 for sure as i would mainly because excel stuff are easier to type with a huge keyboard instead of the tiny ones that the tungstens have... but u have to ee it this way... a large chunk of the overall market for mobile phones, especially in my country are teenagers... and teenagers love to change phones from time to time.. always wanting the newest phone, etc. havent you noticed that all the phones that have come out (nokia 3300) are targeted for the younger generation... thats because they are the larger market. and the business sector is only a handful..
first of all, business men are not concerned about their mobile phones, most f them are not techies who would change their phones from time to time, they would only if it broke down. second of all they would prefer laptops and have the money to buy it. and thirdly, they have hot secretaries who would do the manua task of typing all day.
s o nokia is rather hiting the market where it can sell the most and maximize profit.

Were did you get the figures ?
Stargate, I've read it in numerous IT websites ( as an example: http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/1069.html )
Problem here esperado is that the business person PDA market (the communicator's target) is a lot smaller than the smartphone market. Hence why the delay in manufacture.
I hear you, SwitchBlade. The business market is indeed smaller. But then again, that was also true at the time of the 9210 Communicator release and that didn't stop it from becoming a best seller in Europe, overtaking both Pocket PC and Palm (see article given above). If there's anything we (and the people at Nokia) can learn from it, is that the stylus pen may not be the preferred mode of entering data with A LOT of people.
Plus the fact that in order to make a Communicator "speak" a different language, all you have to do is basically assign a new keyboard layout, while hand-writing recognition requires a whole new engine, built from scratch. (Just look at the P800 - it's been almost a year after its release, and it is still only used with English and Chinese (because the latter is a HUGE market). I think it would be fair to assume that most people who bought the 9210 would buy the new Communicator.
The sales figures for the 9210 tell us there's absolutely no reason to delay a new Communicator model. That "confusion in the smartphone market" thing is total nonsense in my personal opinion. The Communicator is unique, because it has all the capabilities of a laptop, but you can put it in your pocket (which is not true about any other smartphone, even the P800). That was the big attraction for business people.
I bought my 9210 for US$1000 dollars when it first came out and there are lots of laptops you can find for a lower price, so it's not a price issue either.
Moreover, teenagers always look for smaller and smaller size (Ha! As if that's an advantage!) and they have been doing it for years. Yet, the 9210 sales figures tell us that whoever was buying that phone couldn't care less about the fact that it was the largest phone on the market.
Nokia must think like this, it is very possible. It is hard to evaluate who buys what these days. For example, I am not an executive, I don't have a secretary, and surprisingly, I have a 9210i. But the market is sure difficult to find between PDA and small laptops.
Such great expectations for such a small device. But now, which owner would live without it ?
I see a real lot of communicators going around in my country, and I bet that 90% of the owners would buy the new one!

actually 100% of all the 9210i'ers would buy a replacement, they all use it for business and find that nothing comes close to it 😃 😃

BULLS**T, alot of users of have turned to smartphones my arse, where did u get this rubbish info, and no market for the 9210, what a joker u are who has no idea of the mobile market, why don;t u catch the Heathrow Express from Paddington to Heathrow which is used by 99.9% business poeple and see how many have 9210i's nearly 90% mate!
Which business couldn't care less about smartphones? You? What total nonsense u speak, my colleagues are laughin there socks off at all this rubbish u write! Actually i can;t be bothered to responding to total nonesense! 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃

4u2nv,you can't be bothered to reply, why did you?I thought we were having a healthy discussion here, not some childish "who can use the most obscene words is cool" and "who can use the most offensive remarks wins" contest.I really don't get that your colleagues laughing at me bit?Was that suppose to make me angry?sad?not able to reply?
90% of the business people use a communicator? Then I guess that the UK must be flooded with communicators  .Lets talk facts here, not hearsay.Do you know how many Nokia 7650's were sold in the first two months?Something around 1.5 million, and sales did not drop after the first two months. What about the 3650 and the p800?Do you think only teenagers bought them?Ok,the 3650 is aimed at teenagers but the 7650 and the p800 are certainly not.
I certainly agree with most of esperado's points but we(the users)don't have much influence on Nokia's business strategy.
Nokia Corp will not introduce a new version of its flagship smart phone this year because of continued confusion in the smart device space.
According to Marko Luhtala, director business applications with Nokia Mobile Phones, a refresh for the 9200 Communicator series is not top of Espoo, Finland-based Nokia's to-do list. This is despite the devices running the long-in-the-tooth original version of Symbian OS 6 and not incorporating GPRS connectivity.
well just my opinion it's kind of different in Asian Market
For example my cousin which is still like 14 years old already using a 7650 then he switched to the new IPAQ with the fingerprint thingy
and the fact is in Asia is when new mobile phones comes out they just buy it without knowing how good is the thing cos in my country lots of people buying and using the communicator just using the basic feature like word and does not even know if they could install new softwares and things like that, the same goes for 7650
for me, well if the new comm coming out i think for sure i'll choose this thing instead of Smartphone like SX-1 and 6600. but in the end it depends on my father mood if he wants to buy me one 😃 😃
cos i'm just 18 and using 9210i mostly just for fun 😃 😃 so teenager using Comm is part of the market 😃 😃 😃 😃
also FYI in my previous school in Indonesia in one classroom which contains about 25 students 85% of the students using 7650 (8-9 months ago)

Jesus... Go back and reread both out posts, mate. I find it hilarious that you started trash-talking the very argument that you yourself so ineloquently support! The point I was making, is that business users do not care about tiny fluffy smartphones, on the contrary (and I quote myself here): "...they [business people] need a larger keyboard, and most importantly, they need compatibility with MS Office"... Hot damn, that sounds like... a Nokia Communicator!!!
What's that? I hear your collegues laughing their skirts off, only this time, they seem to be laughing at you for attacking the very point you're trying to make. "Yes, I disagree with my own opinion!"
So, who's having the last belly-shattering laugh now, mate? Looks like it's GrammatonCleric 😃 and myself 😃 after all...
An you? -> 😮ops: Serves you right, though. This forum is no place for insults and personal attacks (especially on people you know nothing about).
Peace!!! 😃
I'll replace my comm with another comm, i hope it has mms this time though or I might change my mind... 😃
