There is no special limitation for the amount of SMS messages. There's 3,6 MB of dynamic memory in the 7650 which is shared by messages, images, installed applications and so on.

I'd say that if you don't use the memory to installed applications, there's more than enough space for SMS messages for anybody's needs.
