new P800!! (and naturally, some new questions)

hiya! long time listener first time caller =] i just bought a brand new P800 developer kit from Jspec on ebay (found the ad for it on this board) (thanks a million Jspec!!) planning on developing games and media software in the coming months (i spent weeks before reading docs and playing with the emulator) so i'll probably be posting more here and on the dev forum.

so anyways, i love it! but! i've had some problems getting software onto it. whenever i try to install a .sis file it gets past the installing.. version then it pops up either 'sonyericssonp80xproductid' not installed or 'uiq20productid' not installed. i'm guessing it's because my phone is R1a (going to get it flashed monday) or perhaps the driver for my desk stand (supposedly a dcu-11) which is using an unsigned xp driver, is not proper. i'm sure i'll be getting bluetooth soon but i'll get it in a hurry if that's my prob. i'm using the pc suite 1.5.1 software. i've had the sdk's installed and uninstalled and reinstalled as well.

another problem is my internet/gprs connection isn't working. i went to the wap/mms/gprs configurators on sonyericsson's site but no worky. i was hoping maybe opera might solve this but of course couldn't install opera.sis. i don't have any gprs (t-zones) on my service yet..prolly getting unlimited data setup today.

oh and i don't have a memory stick if that's effective..waiting for a 128mb duo to arrive from sony (80$ seems good)

soo ya thanks in advance for any help =]

okay i signed up for the t-zones and i think that'll fix my internet problems once it comes on..the uiq20productid thing is still really confusing tho..oh i don't think it's the desk stand because i copied a .sis to my phone and it got the same error trying to install locally.

Can you copy files to and from the phone successfully? This would test the drivers for your syncstation at least.
Try copying a midi file to the phone and play it. I figure that if there are any data transfer errors you should be able to hear some bad notes.
Sorry I can't help on the application installer problem directly but you might at least be able to rule out one possible cause.

Hi mintygreencow,

Yes, you need to upgrade the firmware in order to install applications.
The pre-production units had some restrictions regarding 3'rd party software. -Something about a special certificate.. - sorry, I don't remember exactly, but an upgrade should sort it out. 😊

Cheers
