in one word "WOW!" i am very VERY impressed with the mp3 playback, i am using the default player, the quility is very very good with the headphones supplied. Im finding that messing about with the phone wile using the audio player causes the sound to studder slighly, what other apps are recommended?

You might want to try out OggPlay!. You have to convert your CD's or MP3's to the Ogg Vorbis format first, but it is definitely worth it because a 64kbps Ogg file is basically of the same quality as a regular 128kbps MP3 file, but the file size of the Ogg file will be HALF the size of the MP3. - Resulting in TWICE as much music in your phone! :bday:

the ogg converter i've used is really crap, you have to have a 128 kps mp3, most mine are variable bitrate or higher than 192

BAH! all of my music is 192 bite rate, what other 3rd party mp3 prog is out there, money is no problem 😉

ogg sounds very fishy, if you take a bit of paper, and scrunch it up then open it back up, u dont get the original back. Mp3s cut enough sound quility out from cd as it is, cant imagine ogg being any good, ill give it a try once my dam phone finishes charging, HURRY UP, I COMMAND YOU!!

Ogg is very good, its excelent even.Ogg's compression algoritham is better then mp3 for one reason, open source.Don't know how it works on the p800 but i've heard nothing but good words for OggPlay,so i guess it must be good.

Converting mp3 to ogg will results with a loss of quality even if the bitrate stays the same of course.

mp3 players:Unreal and mp3go,i think 😮

Yes, OggPlay is an excellent audio player, and Ogg Vorbis is a much better audio format than MP3(open source/higher quality/smaller file size).

And yes, of course converting from one compressed format(MP3) to another(Ogg Vorbis) will result in some quality loss, but NOT much IMHO!

But of course the best way to go when converting to Ogg Vorbis is to rip from CD's, and there's free programs out there that will let you rip from CD straight to Ogg.

I would definately go for UnrealPlayer. It looks great, great features, and I just love the flip-closed mode of this player (it even got it's own keylock). BTW It's cheaper than Mp3Go!

I don't like Ogg either, since I don't wanna convert all my files! I would go for Unreal Player if I were you (you can always try it out first by downloading the trial)

does the playback on unreal get effected if you mess about with the phone while playing songs?

No

it doesnt any way, it only will when your consuming major memory from the phone, though ive never experienced it

Oggplayer is much better!! 😊

also with the flip closed. (allthough i have removed that lame flip)

how much mp3 (or ogg) playback can i get out of the phone on full charge? 4,5,6 hours maybe?

in my experience it was a poor time - i was playing music for around an hour and then left the phone on, just doing nothing, then after about 4 hours it died 😞 mind you the backlight may have been on!

😮

If you get the R2F firmware upgrade, you can control your mp3s with the phone's flip closed and there's no more need to get the 'unrealplayer' or 'mp3go'.

The original media player on the P800 is excellent (and won't crash your phone)!

Well, I disagree. Unrealplayer offers so much more functionality, especially in FC-mode (FF, RWD, it won't "auto-disapear" after one minute in FC and has it's own keylock). And the latest version won't let your P800 crash anymore either, most bugs are fixed by now!

I have just been listening to some mp3s through my hifi, and was amazed that i can tell the difference between 96, 128 and 192kbps even tho i have a double ear infection! Havnt tried ogg yet, is it noticibly different? I tinhk its my new speaker cable thats helping me notice 😃
