bluetooth security question

This thread included a poll: bluetooth

i don't have a bluetooth dongle for my pc yet (feel free to include recommendations/experience) and i was just wondering if my room is near the sidewalk and my bluetooth is on and someone walks by with their bluetooth laptop; if they can grab all my wonderful jotter images, or if there's encrypted passcodes and whatnot to establish such a connection.

thanks ya'll!

I dont have one of those laptop bluetooth connections either but I would have thought you would have to pair the laptop with the phone before any sort of transfer can take place.
In that case they would need your passcode (think thats what its called)

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong...

well, you pair your device up with the other, meaning that you need to set up an identical passcode, however, if others use a bluetooth phone, they could find your bluetooth dongle on your pc, but wouldn't be able to connect to it unless they had access to your pc and pair their device up with it too before have access

Someone could always get this to capture the Bluetooth traffic (but they'd have to be close by, and still, I wonder why anyone would bother).
