Writing HTML on Nokia?

7 replies · 2,228 views · Started 30 July 2002

Hi,
I support some web sites so I sometise prepare HTML-pages on the fly on my 9210.
Unfortunately i do not know any HTML editor for 9210, so make a word document and then open it on PC and save as HTML.

A little perverse way especially because there's an FTP programm for Nokia. So if there're any HTML-editor one could maintain his web pages without PC with 9210 only!

Would anybody have some suggestions?

Thanx!

Hello Leo,

have you tried YEdit from Yellow. It is a text editor, but you are able to save the files as html files. Check Colin's website (www.aikon.ch) for a detailed description.
Otherwise there is no explicit HTML Editor for the 9210 that I''m aware of.

Regards,

Tilman

Hello,

I used to maintain a web site from my 9210 (the short lived MobileMusings) and I used PowerData to generate the news items and YEdit to do the other pages.

There's a mini review of YEdit here -> http://www.twyn-y-berllan.com/mm/mmpc/reviews/yedit.htm for your perusal. I'd say it is really good for what you want it for, but it has its flaws.

Out of curiosity, how are you transferring the files to the server? You may want to look at this -> http://www.twyn-y-berllan.com/mm/mmpc/reviews/yftp.htm it's a mini review of YFTP but for goodness' sake, make sure you get the latest version from them if you buy it!

Hi could you use PowerData to generate web objects? It'd be very intersting. I did use PD untill now in general as a dictionary collection

Thanx for your tips,

Leo

HTML generators produce al lot of extra obsolete code.
In my opinion even if there is a html generator for 9210 (I'm sure it doesn't excist) you will save a lot of time and money (connection costs) if you use a program like yedit.
I would suggest keeping your 9210's browser open with the html your editing and also open yedit at the same time.
This way you can type and directly switch (save edited text first) to the browser and viewing it (refresh). I think the speed of working that way would be acceptable.

Hope you figure something out!

PowerData, wlthough it does have HTML export as a list and a table, doesn't directly support the advanced functionality for which you may be looking. However, as far as my use of it went, I set field names to be combinations of HTML tags and I set fields' default values to contain the kind of formatting I wanted using < and >. Even putting < at the end of a field name managed to get PowerData to supress the : that it includes in an export, as long as the first character in the field's content was a >.

It's worth a potch since PowerData really is very powerful (hence the name, I suppose  ).

There's an opensource HTML editor for ER5 written in OPL so if someone fancy's a porting project...

I've never ment a HTML Generator (I hate them) ; the working process, proposed by Dazler is really mine on a PC: now I can do on the Nokia as well.
My thanks to Tankerx, too: although it's not absolutely clear how u make HTML with PowerDate(d'u mean you put HTML tags in the fields of a table and the save or export the table as HTML or as a text file + rename it to HTML?) I'll try to use PowerData in any case for it.

The FTP-Client I used was a free Java one I wudn't recommend anybody with Nokia v3.54 as mine (damned slow!)
