I'm after software with a good "today" view that I can leave up most of the time, and which allows lots of shortcuts to apps.
Anyone got any comments about Handy Day vs. Tracker? Do they have similar functionality, or might I want both? Which is better? Are there any other products I should be looking at?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Chris Owens.
personally i have found tracker (v2) much more usable with its 2 full screen shortcut abilities and today view (which i do not use regularly). the file manager in tracker is better than the freeware fileman (sorry!) and tracker is easy to use one-hand.
yes, the memory fluh anf the close all app-s in tracker is brill
Another brilliant feature in Tracker is assigning a function to the hardware buttons. As we all know UIQ doen't have an EXIT button in the default apps, but Tracker solves this beautifully. Every time I'm in an application I just press the jog dial towards me and a screen pops up asking me if I wan't to close that app. I use this function all the time to not clog up the memory. 😃

i press it downwards to close, upwards takes me to the memory screen, but i find flsuhing the memory out after i finish using my phone nad ready to put it into standby more convenient than closing each app as i go along, but that's just my personal preference
For what it's worth, I actually much prefer Handy Day. Tracker does have some nice stuff (especially compact memory)but I found it far too "Fussy" for the way I work. I like the screen to be clear and uncluttered, the same way I use my desktop PC.
I have the today view open with a plain "Win 95 Green" background. Handy Day allows you to place a further six icons accross the bottom of the screen to which I have assigned my most common apps (WorldMate, Adv. Eng. Dictionary, Jotter, Control Panel, Calculator & PJotter). It also has a button that gives you instant access to Calendar, Messaging and todo. If I want anything else I use the application view.
However, from what you say, I would suspect that Tracker is probably best for you. Especially if you want to be able to access lots of program from the one place.
As they both have limited trials, why not install one for a few days, then the other and see which you prefer?
actually, i only use tracker for the memory side of it, i have handy day running permenantly
For me less is more, so I stayed with Handy day. Tracker just seemed to me a little too much, but it is a very well thought out app and I dismissed it based on my personal taste only, not on failure to comply.
havnt tried handy but tracker 2 suits me great, I use the today view mostly and as prevoisly mentioned closing apps and remapping keys useful 2
i have handy day running perm cause everything is on screen when i open my phone and i have tracker compressed and use it for the file managment system and cleaning up my phone
I use Handy Day mainly for the today screen, it is better than the Tracker one, because it has better overview, and you can use the jog to browse to the next or pevious days. Tracker is nice, but when it is in screenlock mode, you can't check the time or your appointments for the day. You will have to unlock to see those, while in Handy Day you turn the jog or press the screen and it comes right up. Furthermore you can't use animated GIF's as a screenlock image, while Handy Day uses the normal screensaver.
