I had this phone for about a week and decided to sell it. Here are my pros and cons
Pros:
1. The phone has an amazing touch screen which works very well, nice to write on and very smooth
2. It was nice to see that sony supplied quite a bit of memory (12meg internal + 16 card) so you have alot to play with when you first get it
3. Camera was quite nice after changing the size one notch down
4. i espcially liked the help feature of the phone, quite good if you cant be bothered to read the paving slab like manual sony supply!
5. excellent user interace, nice usage of drop down and "FILE, EDIT" style like windows has
Cons(not i used it without keyboad):
1. It became quite annoying having to use the pen all the time, cant really use it quickly unless you use ur fingers
2. its a two handed phone, not very good if ur driving
3. the actual menu structure was AWFUL, everything was simply in the wrong place
4. VIBRATAION!!!!!!! esp in messages the phone hardly vibrated, i had this same problem with the t68i and probably the main reason why i sold that!
5. Battery life was quite poor but i guess u would expect that from a phone with alot of features, maybe a heavy duty battery would help?
6. Games are pritty useless on the phone probably cause of point no.7
7. jog dial on the left means the phone was not really designed for a left handed person (like me)
8. Movie clips were just a joke, i was ashamed to have them on!!
9. Memory was just too expensive, not really worth spending another 60 quid on the phone
Ok thats enough, just to summarise, sony have created a wonderful phone but have, in my eyes, not really concentrated on main issues like vibration and battery life. Something so basic was lacking for me and thats the i had to pass it on. After the T68i i promised myself i wouldnt get another sony ericsson phone but after i saw a live demo on the p800 i figured they had vastly improved, in a way they have but still have a fair bit to go.
Feel free to add to this but is what i felt i gained (and lost) from having this phone.
Ill be around on the forum so see ya all around!
The P800 is not for everyone. Good luck finding a suitable alternative..
the speakerphone on p 800 is very bad. this is the main reason i sold it. you CANNOT have a decent phone/pda without having a good, loud, reliable and clear-cut speakerphone. putting a phone/pda on your ear most of the times is rediculous, apart from the fact that u might miss some phone operator instructions such as pressing certian numbers for voice mail operation or reaching certain contacts/ persons when calling into private networks. hope p810 or p900 has an improve speakerphone. see the speakerphone on the back of p810 so i have not much hope though.
😃
Yep, the P800 is quite different from normal mobiles. It took me a while to get used to all the new features, but overall I'm very happy with it.
There is no phone on the market that boasts the same features, or comes closes to what the P800 got to offer. Full stop.
*I'm left-handed and operate my P800 without any issues, in fact, I think it's actually easier for left-handed people to operate it...
true. I am right-handed but I gotta use the phone with my left hand becos of the job dial
im a left hander but have to write with my left hand so i have to control the jog dial with right, i mean i cant even control a spoon with my right hand never mind a jog dial!! 😃 😃 😃
the battery is one of the best available, and using your phone while driving will be illegal if you live in the uk by the end of the year, i dunno about the other countries

Yeap. it is already forbidden in Finland, Switzerland and Germany. There is such a nice bluetooth headphone for the P800... 😉
Depite all the obvious failings of the P800 I love my phone aqnd would rather sever all of my extremties that but a poxy Nokia.
Good luck finding an alternative - I don't think there's anything that can touch the SE - prove me wrong!

I don't think a week is enough time to give to this handset to really get comfortable with it. I wasn't entirely convinced with it myself for the first few weeks of using it - but now I can't do without it. Without doubt an indespensible piece of kit. Good luck finding something to replace it, but I suspect we might see you back on the forums at a later date sporting a P810 😉
i like my p800 and i do not have plans of selling this for now. p800 is not really for everyone.
I've had my P800 for over 6 months now, and I won't buy a new one until there is a BETTER alternative (which, in my opinion, does not exist at the moment!).
Here in Holland calling while driving is illegal too, you end up paying 130 euro when they will catch you! A BT headset is cheaper 😃
I'm right-handed, but have always used the P800 with my left hand, since my stylus has to be in my right hand. Now I end up using it left-handed too when I'm not using the stylus 😃 But I guess that works better with the Jog-dial anyway!
I got really mad when my system crashed and all my memory was deleted.... if it happens again, i'm selling my phone too... i can't afford all my information to be wiped out.
:bday:
That's why you get backup/restore software with your P800.

wouldn't that be your fault partially? my sync cradle doesn't work so i don't use the back up and restore but i have a folder with everything that's on my p800 at the same time, all contacts are saved through the export file option, all notes and things are as text documents etc
Surely if you'd created a back-up file on your PC you wouldn't have to re-enter any info. Just do a restore - no probs 😉
i've had my p800 a week now and although i'm limited in use by not having a memorystick (should arrive today) i love it! going to start developing apps for it this week. i definitely agreed with you on the lack of physical controls for games being a problem, especially since i'd like to work on some games and this phone has everything else to do high framerate gaming. i've seen a controller snap on device for a different phone that would be excellent attached to our phone. it could even include an improved speakerphone, vibrator, and act as a protector. toss in a better stylus (ala p810) mm this is sounding good. i think i'll start a new thread with this =]
oh and driving while using a phone is illegal in the US as well, many here think that's the case only in new york where it's specifically illegal to use a cell phone but there was a law established in the 1930's that made it illegal to do anything but drive while driving. but it's good that they put stiffer penalties on cell phone usage because it has become #2 cause and cost for accidents behind DUI.

i don't know who this is directed at, either me or the one complaining that they lost all their stuff, but if it's directed at me, i have a back up file but restore doesn't work as my pc suite doesn't work, if it's directed at the dude who lost his stuff, then yeah, it's his fault
however, if you really did loose such sensitive data, wouldn't it have been logical in the first place to create a backup somwhere? if you have sensitive data on your pc, most people make floppy back ups or put it on a cd r/rw as one virus or a corrupted dll file could make you visit the format commands
