does anybody know of a site that provides free pop3 email accouts? my isp only provides one email address and this account belongs to my mom. i just set up a gprs account for my phone and im itching to play with the browser and email on the phone

If in UK sign up for freeserve.

Not technically free tho, cos you have to sign in using there dial up once every 90 days. But you only need to stay connected for a second.. so basically free

yeah, i'm on tmobile and use the t email service, they're pretty much like orange but with orange you get an alert sent to you via sms when you have a new email, but tmobile you get the headers of the email sent to you

well im currently living in indonesia right now. t mobile and orange is not available here = ( . but i tried hotpop and it works. thanx guys. now i just hope i dont get alot of spam in the hotpop account. cause i think its gonna be pretty expensive even if just download the headers only when im getting alot of spam. damn how much i hate spam!

if you have free minutes, try downloading the emails via wap, i dunno why but my wap via tmobile is really fast, and it's csd and comes out of my free minutes as i use it loads more than gprs and my bill this month is only 14 pence, but i use csd for stuff like IM+ too and i don't know why but it actually seems fast and connects fast

You have CSD in Manchester? Thought UK only ran GSM circuits?
I also thought that HCSD and GPRS were exclusive, but maybe not. :-?
Anyone care to enlighten me?

i just signed up for the hotpop account. i tested it out on outlook on my computer and everything works fine. BUT when i tried it on the p800 i got an error messsage!!! it says PROBLEM COPYING MESSAGES (UNKNOWN ERROR) did i do something wrong? i tried deleting the email account and and set up a new one but i still got the same problem. HELLLLLLPPPPP

try: www.emailaddresses.com

Just to remind you: Your smtp-Server (Outgoing mailserver) has to be from your Mobilephone Provider or you have to use it with smtp-authentification.

When i first got my p800 i tried a few free email accounts, ithink i tried hotpop but never got it to work, not 100% sure it was hotpoop tho

isn't wap, csd?

csd (circuit switch data) is a run on gsm at speeds of 9.6 or 14.4

orange support high speed circuit switch which is high speed wap account

all csd requires dialup

CSD doesn't have to be WAP,i often use CSD(For testing purposes)to browse the WWW.It depends whether the gateway allows that or not.

So CSD is a line protocol, or a messaging protocol?

Are you talking about the 'Speed' tab in the internet settings?

YOU'VE GOT MAIL! oh wow that is sooo cool. i finally got the email working on the p800 now. u were right i had to use it with smtp-authentification. thanx alot!!!!! hopefully i can help u guys out maybe later on in the future.

CSD is a line protocol,a dial up(correct me if I'm wrong)On top of it,if the headset is capable you can even run TCP/IP.Most operators provide WAP over CSD.You can even use a regular dial up account from a regular ISP(If you have one) with CSD.Its great if you have one of those free minutes subscriptions, like nk8 said, the downside is the speed,9600 or 14400.

Most operators have clued up to people using DUN accounts on mobile phones and now don't incude it with the free minutes, Not unless you can find a server with a regular (local) number from you ISP, all these 0845 etc (for UK anyway) come on my bill as DATA @ 10p per minute :-?

This is what was confusing me, what's the difference between CSD and a data call over GSM? I suspect that CSD is what I get when I select
'ISDN' in the dial-up tab?

Actually when I'm in Russia or Latvia using GSM dial-up (to local), the slowest bit is the hook-up (time to dial and login), after that my thoughputs are quite acceptable. Re-hooking (after the line is put down in data pause) seems to be as fast as GPRS, so I guess this circuit will be this CSD thing then.

Thanks for information guys.

Well,CSD is a data call over GSM.The ISDN thing is just a CSD option. When making a data call with the ISDN option selected, you will get much faster hook-up(time to dial and login) 😃 If the ISDN option is supported by the ISP.

As for the speed, its a lot slower then GPRS.

yep, limited to maximum 14400 and lowest at 9600

Are there any apps for measuring your connection speed? mine is very fast, faster than the e606 on 3, which is limited to 64Kbs
I think orange are the only people that support speeds above 9.6kb/s in the UK.
this could be true, through hscsd because although phones like the nokia 7110 which was capable of 14.4kps, nothing supported it, they always used 9.6 instead,
