Using Internet explorer or not.

I was lately getting real tired of the speed of this forum.. Did not do that much about it though.. What other options than IE is there really if wanting to use the sites I normally use.. (some of them don't accept me using Opera grrrrr...)

Oh well.. one day I stumbled upon this shell / addon.. whatever it is called.. for IE..

I thought wow.. It is actually possible to speed up things still using the IE engine..

Just thought I'd share it with you.. Use it or choose not to. up to you 😃

Even though i'm extermely pro *NIX,IMHO,IE is still the best browser out there.Opera,Mozilla and other browsers using the Mozilla engine(Galleon) are close but unfortunately, they are still not there.

That is the reason I posted.. There are no other browsers out there matching IE at the moment.. This one is not a browser on its own.. It uses IE as engine.. Just adds faster browsing (own opinion) and extra tools/features.. and Tabbed windows (I luuuv that 8) )

But read for yourself.. It can be chosen independently.. meaning.. you can use IE and MYIE2 at the same time 😃

And.. You can always uninstall if not liking it 😉

I downloaded it and installed it,its ok,i don't know whether its faster or not,but it seems ok.

I'm posting this from MyIE2.

WTF???? IE is the worst browser out there, it's still lacking compatability, it's slow, fat, crashes too much and it generally a big pile of turd. Opera has always been far better than it, although I now use Mozilla all the time as I prefer it's interface over Opera.

i was waiting for your post switchblade, no way you gonna allow the M$ IE infidels win 😃 😃

anyways, IE 6 on my computer has been commendabely stable compared to the previous versions. ive used Opera, Netscape and Gnutella....Opera was great, but there was need to install plugins here and there, thus made it pointless. I would reccomend Opera to those who value space and dont visit graphic intensive sites and just a good alternative to IE, but i have a large hard drive capacity, a relatively fast PC.....and alot of patience......so IE does ok for me in my book. 😃

I use Avantbrowser, and I love it! It is kind of a shell for IE, although it is a stand-alone app. But because off the fact it has IE as a basis there are no compatibility issues!

It has tabbed browser, pop-up stopper and many many more. And it claims to be faster! It is great for mobile usage as well, since there is a quick-access button to de-activate all pictures and flash-animations!

Check out www.avantbrowser.com!

Well. Tried avant.. but it lacked some of the neat features I found in MYie2..

I had avant browser at work and MYIE2 at home.. and after approx 2 weeks.. I ditched avant..

Reason? Well. avant does not have mouse gestures.. ( luv that option 😃 )

Avant has not the same great plugins as MYIE2 has.

But hey.. there is room for all.. each can choose what they prefer I say 😃

I use Safari on my Mac, and is much better than IE for almost everything (apart from .txt files the font is small viewing thses you can't adjust the font size)

I started using Opera a few months back but have now reverted back to MSIE.

Why not give the following a try and see if it makes any difference 😊

backup your registry before applying this

Download DrTCP, run it once it has downloaded and set it to the following:

Tcp Receive Window (RWIN): 64240
Window Scaling: YES
Time Stamping: NO
Selective Acks: YES
Path MTU Discovery: YES
Black Hole Detection: NO
Max Duplicate Acks:
TTL: 64

Make sure the right connection selected in the drop-down list at the bottom and then click save.

Now go into the windows registry editor and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet Settings
Then add the following two DWORD values:
MaxConnectionsPerServer
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server

Now set them both to 15 HEX

If you are using multiple users on your machine you will need to add the same values in the following registry key:
HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet Settings

IE speeds up significantly when multiple connections are enabled. It's probably why Opera is so fast without any tweaks

I have tested both of these tweaks out on a Windows XP machine and a Windows 2000 machine, if you are running a diferent version of Windows then I suggest you don't try the registry tweak.

This worked a treat on my Satellite connection, not sure if there will be a noticeable difference for a 56k connection,

Hope this helps.
