English input on P800 (chinese) with flip closed?

This is a sticky problem... And I think only those using a chinese P800 can help.

I bought my P800 in Hong Kong from CSL, and have set language to English. However, with flip closed, when I try to access my phone book using the jog dial and numeric keys, the phone uses Chinese input! This is no good to me since all my contacts are in English.

I checked in Control Panel, under 'text input' and my only option in Traditional Chinese!

Does anyone have any clues how I can change this so that I can use English input? BTW I have NO requirement to use chinese at all.

Thanks!

When you need to change input method, press the "*" key.

It's bad that by default, they set it to Chinese Input and nowhere SE tell you how to change it. I was stuck for sometime before I got it by chance.

Eric,
Thanks! That did the job!

SF,
Thanks for the tip, but I think this is an issue with the chinese phones, where in setup, you can only select "Traditional Chinese input"

Cheers!

You can draw a straight line from bottom of the screen to top of the screen to change the input from Chinese to English.

I can do it on mine.

Hope this helps.

Eric

Hi jychow,

Yes, but you referred to flip-open mode and what tinman and my experience concerned were about flip-closed mode.

Thanks for sharing!
