i have just bought a 9210 and was wondering if there is an update to the standard programs including the whole os. I downloaded something from the symbian website called "all nokia 9210i data.is" but when i tried to install this it came up "in use" on the 9210 and "file locked or in use by another program" on my pc. Do i have to delete everything on the C: and D: drive off my 9210 via my pc and then install? Any help would be most appreciated
Cheers

Hi Matty,

Matty, you can not update a 9210 to a 9210i the symbian on a 9210 is defrent then on a 9210i, so you can not do eneything what you have download for your 9210 !!!

If you like to install everything again then you have to download the data files on the nokia forum website !!! an make sure that you download all the data for the 9210 and not for the 9210i it will not work !!

Greetings,

Rudi

You've got firmware and you've got software, the entire symbian os is firmware. Firmware can only be installed by a nokia service center.
To find the version of your firmware press: *#0000# on the phone side, the first line will contain your firmware version, for instance mine is: 3.18.

The sis file that you have, contains all basic apps. That install file is what you need when you reformat your device. You can download the correct install file from http://www.nokia.com/phones/productsupport/9210/downloads.html

Check that you have the correct version of the software when comparing with your firmware version.

But like I said you won't need this software until you format your device.

So in other words, you can't just update your os with an install file 😊

Hope you enjoy your 9210!

BTW Rudi ik wist niet dat het zo erg gesteld was met ons Belgen 😛 Had nog nooit gehoord van het Belgische support center 😉 This forum is all support I ever needed 😉

sorry i forgot the i, i do have a 9210i. i presse *#0000# and it repled V 03.62

So if i format the C: drive from my pc and then install the nokia sis file will that work?

Indeed,
To format you're full device:

Here's how...

First of all copy any data files you might still need (like your contacts) onto your MMC or PC...

Then remove the battery nice and slowly...

Put it back after a few seconds...

While the screen is white(blank) press Shift+Control+F.

Then format it by choosing YES.

Then of course you need to reinstall All_Nokia_9210_ data.sis file to the C drive.

Next you format the MMC card using the File Manager...

Then you install All_memory_card_data.sis to the D drive .

And thats all! Good Luck!!!

You don't need to format your D:.
This is the nokia sis file for c:

Here is a firmware explaination:
http://www.allabouter6.com/support/nokia92x0/guide2.php#2.1.2

If you want a better 'upgrade' you could go to your service center and ask them to update the fone's firmware version to 4.13
