I have a major problem with my GPRS internet connection.
I hope you have an answer to this problem As I've already contacted both the Sony/Ericsson Support team and my GSM provider and neither of them could provide me with a working solution.
Here are the details of the problem:-
-My phone model : Sony/Ericsson P800
-System Information :
Phone: CXC162002 R1B
Bluetooth: CXC12529 R2C
Organizer: CXC162001 R1C02
CDA: CDA162001/2 R1B02
-GSM Provider : Vodafone Egypt
-Description :-
When connecting to the internet using GPRS and the default browser supplied with my phone everything worked fine. However the default browser doesn't support JavaScript so I installed the OPERA browser but it won't connect to the internet and displays this error message "could not locate remote server" and also when trying to connect the Instant Messenger program supplied by Symbian it displays this error message "cannot connect to messanger.hotmail.com at port 1863".
After contacting my GSM Network support I was informed that both of these programs work fine with the network on all other phones. Also when using internet connection sharing with my laptop (normal dialup) Both programs connect successfully.
The support team at Sony/Ericsson Egypt didn't have any clue of what I was speaking about when I contacted them about this problem.
I hope you can provide me with any help concerning this situation.
I am getting the same problem with my UK Vodafone P800....
It used to work at an early stage of my P800 life, but now I cannot use any of the messenger software and having problems with Opera....can anyone out there help?
Please search the forum, this has been covered many many times before.
Basically, programs like Opera, IM etc. doesn't work through a WAP gateway. Only the default browser works through WAP. So what you need to do is to change your internet account settings to work through an INTERNET gateway and NOT WAP.
I've seen in some other threads that the internet settings for Vodafone is something like this:
User name: web
Password: web
Address: internet

i can use IM via wap
Seems you guys have it sorted...
But anyone know the internet settings for O2.
I'm using the WAP gateway now but Opera etc dont work 😞
I've searched the stickies as best I can and only found Voda or other operators settings.
Thanks for any help,
Brenden
if you go to o2's site, you'll be able to come to some drop down bars where you can choose which settings to have sent to your phone via OTA, though i have heard problems about o2 and real web gprs but i'm not sure enough to write it out.
Thanks nk8, but the O2 site only send the settings for GPRS WAP so no internet gateway 😞
Anyone else got the settings or ideas?
Cheers.
