ive found that while ive got GPRS active, the phone wont allow me to receive calls from anyone and just diverts straight to my answering machine. if i disconnect it though it works ok.
i dont know whether this is meant to happen or not but i need GPRS connected permanently.
any advise, thanks.
Control panel - Connections - Internet accounts - Other - Preferred mode: Automatic.

certainly is problem solved!
thanks
further problems im afraid...
ive set the gprs timeout settings to 'never' and i havent selected any power saver settings, but after about half an hour the gprs globe on the top left of the display disappears so i presume that the gprs is disconnecting for some reason even though the timeout is at its maximum.
how do i get it to stay connected permanently or have i got a faulty handset?
GPRS "up" time is so fast that you shouldn't really be worrying about it,
and you are using an extra bit of battery while connected.
Generally when the globe vanishes it is because you have put no traffic down the line for the timeout period, so clearly did not need it on for that time anyway.
Can't answer your question BTW., just interested to know why you should want to do it in the first place?
i use wap loads during the day for 192 directory enquiries and yellow pages and havent really got the time to keep re-connecting to gprs.
ive spoken to sonyericsson data support but its the first theyve heard about it. ive got firmware R2F. is it possible it would fix this with an upgrade or is this the latest firmware?

R2F is the latest. I don't have that problem (although I'm on R2D, and the last time I tried it out was when I was still on R1D...). So I guess can't really help you either... 😞

gprs is always connected if you have it, when the globe disappears, it is when you have no gprs traffic, though it is still connected, the globe is only their for when data is sent and recieved therefore the GPRS data log wills tart recording from it, same with MMS messages being sent too, if you click on the bottom left icon where the signal strength is, ti will say GPRS attatched, this is showing that GPRS is on, otherwise it would say GPRS not attatched
There's a check box in the internet connection menu in Control Panel, that lets you remove the connection dialog box.
That way, the phone connects to GPRS when it needs to without ever prompting you.
Even if GPRS disconnects for some reason, it'll reconnect transparently the next time you try to access something.
