mpeg version not compatible??

4 replies · 2,768 views · Started 21 August 2003

Over the past 3 months I have with more or less success tried to convert mpeg movie clips to mp4. Mostly, I am trying to convert mpegs taken by my digi cam Sony PCS5 (2 years old).

While good picture quality is quite easy to get, I constantly fail getting audio. I have previously tried PvAuthor and Quicktime.

My latest attempt was the Movie Maker demo. Again I failed getting audio but the software provided me with the information that the mpeg file was in an unsupported format! 😮 I thought mpeg was mpeg!??

Is there anybody out there who can provide a workaround/explanation? Maybe I can export my non-standard mpeg clips to standard mpeg clips using some kind of converter software...?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Try using TMPGEnc to re-encode to mpg first. Havent downloaded this software for a while but last time I did it was free to encode mpg1 you only had to pay if you wanted to encode mpg2.

Thanks for your responses guys!

It seems from your suggestions and the lack of other posts that there is no easy way to audio on these "non-standard" mpeg files.

i always use AAC 64kps 44000mhz (using pvauthor) and the sound sounds really great
