P900 features backported to the P800

Since the P800 and P900 are going to be pretty alike... what are the chances of SE having a firmware update for the P800 that backports some of the better features like UIQ 2.1 and Java MIDP2.0. I hope so, since the P800 is not running at it's best by a long way!

I'd say that the chances for that happening are pretty slim (not zero, but very, very close).

Well, the P800 might get UIQ2.1, but it definately won't get one of the features of the P810/900. And that's that nice 16 bit screen! That might be the reason for me to go out and buy it once it's released!

I'm sceptical about the 16 bit screen actually. The big 208x320 screen is the one major battery drainer as it is, imagine it having to process 4 times the colours... 😮

Besides, it isn't necessarily that much difference between 4K and 16K colours to the naked eye.

MIDP 2.0 is one of the features you get in UIQ 2.1 in addition to themes etc., and it would be great to get all that with a simple upgrade to the P800, but I have to agree with N/A, I think that's just wishful thinking.

I can't wait to see the P810/P900 officially announsed. I'm very curious about the new flip closed interface. I'm sceptical about the new screen and battery consumption though, hopefully SE will release it with a 1500 - 1800 Mah battery, but I kind of doubt it.. I'm also sceptical about the position of the stylus. I like the way the stylus is placed in the P800 - very easy accessible, but if the new flip closed interface in the P810/P900 can access most applications - the stylus probably wont be that much used, in which case I'm not complaining. 😊

I think it won't be that bad...(perhaps just wishfull thanking 😃 )

😮 There definately is! Pictures look really crap on the P800, while they look allright on my (left in some corner of my room somewhere) Toshiba e310 PPC, with 16 bit screen. That's why I'm really waiting for this particular improvement!

2^12 (12-bit) colours = 4096 colours
2^16 (16-bit) colours = 65536 colours
65536 / 4096 = 16

Well, it isn't just the number of colours that count, it's also the dithering. You can tell how bad the P800 is at dithering if you compare a picture on the P800 screen to a picture on a N7650 screen - which have the same amount of colours (4096).

You're right N/A, I confused the bits (16) with the number of colours (65536)... I was thinking 16K / 4K which is 4...

But, I've never seen a 16 bit screen (and I've seen a lot, believe me) that was worse than the P800 screen, so I still expect that the P810/900 has a much better screen than the P800... But I guess we'll have to wait and see...

The problem is not the screen, its the way the p800 handles colors, if anyone had an Amiga he knows that 4K is good enough. The same problem with the camera its not the sensor of the camera its crap jpg compresion.
ANYWAY i never had an Ericsson phone that was worth the money i gave
and so is this.
They give us all this great hardware and absolutely no support and shity software. Look what an underpowered palm device can do.....
AND PLEASE GIVE US A GAMEPAD!!!!!
Maybe we should complain to SE, and thank god i have money and always can afford a spare Nokia to use

in the past, Ericsson has been quite vigilant about backporting their new and updated stuff to their older phones.

R380s owners got a new version of the firmware after R380e came out!

T68 owners got a new version of the firmware when the T68i came out!

I would say that chances are not slim, but more like 50-50.
