We've published today a free Personal Java compiler which runs on the P800. I have asked Michal to load onto My-Symbian.com. In the meantime, if anyone would like a quick play then go to

Sorry but only pJava is supported, not MIDP Java. Why write and compile Java on your P800? Because you can 😊

Best regards,

This is a wonderful news!. I can't believe this. Just the thought of compiling and running java programs on p800 feels great.

Once again, thanks a lot . It's a great work MalBry.

I made a couple of further enhancements to the program:

* Added the current directory to the Compiler's classpath, so that it will find other classes which have been previously compiled
* Worked around a bug in Symbian's FileDialog which occasionally fails to return the user's selected file

Please use version 1.01 available from:

Further news about our free Java compiler which runs on the P800. It has been pointed out to us that, by packaging some of Sun's Java classes with our compiler, we could be considered as contravening Sun's license agreement. Also the name "Javac" is a Sun trademark.

Accordingly we have made a couple of changes. Our compiler is now named jCompile. Our Java wrapper program is renamed to jRun. The good news is that you can still use our compiler on your P800. The not-so-good news is that you will from now on have to download Sun's Java SDK (which is free) to extract and re-package some Java classes - however this is not difficult and we provide full instructions in the Readme.txt file.

We hope you find jCompile useful. Happy Java programming on your P800 😊

Malcolm
