How to restart the phone?

You could look here for a thread that should answer this, or try a search for jog+dial+format will give you other options.

i'm not talking about resetting the phone as in formatting it...

but just to restart it, after say, installing a program...

Oh, see what you mean, sorry.

Don't think you can, actually.
Most applications seem to install and go without a reboot,
the few that do complain (e.g., when you move something like Handy Day around), seem happy after a hard reboot (a.k.a turning phone off and on).

I think Symbian is like PalmOS, and only runs one app at a time anyway (unless someone is clever with event handlers), so in theory, each process gets 'restarted' as you switch to it.

JulesG,PalmOS doesn't have real multitasking,Symbian OS does. With Symbian OS apps actually do run in the background and don't get paused when you switch to another task and restarted when you switch back to the orignal task like with PalmOS.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

um ... for example,
you can be listening to your favarite ogg, playing Jexed and then theres an incoming call and u answer it. so these 3 programs are running at the same time: Jexed (foreground, as u are playing with it), oggplay (in the backgroung) and 'phone' (in the background).

correct me if I'm wrong 😊

SF

an even better example is a game like strategic assault. you can leave it running a battle in the background while you are doing other stuff and come back to it later and see if the enemy got your base....
