key problem

A few days ago my phone shut down by it self several times, then my keys suddenly stopped working properly. Some of the keys, especially the return-key and the number 2 key do not work anymore, nothing happens when I press them.
But if I open the flip and use the stylus on the screen it works all right. I cannot see any mechanical problems with the keys, they seem all right.
Any tips on what can be done?

Have you fitted a screen protector? If so, check it isn't sliding in just under the edge of the casing. This can seriously mess up the response of the touch screen. Also worth re-calibrating the screen. If the calibration is off by too much, then the little nodules on the back of the buttons will be touching the screen but the software won't recognise that part of the screen as being (e.g.) the part that corresponds to Button 2.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi again, No, I don't have any screenprotector, and recalibrating the screen does not help. Some keys feel non-responsive and either does not produce any input or the wrong action (with the flip closed), so i think it is a hardware problem with the screen, but I do not understand why it works with the flip open.

maybe theirs a problem with the flip and it's not coming down enough or something

Hi

I had the same problem. It was one of the tabs on the side of the flip that was broken. I had to replace the flip.

Stefan

thanks for the tip, I just discovered that one of my tabs is indeed broken!
Now I know how to fix it!

Hi Henrik

I can see you are from Stockholm.
I gave my broken flip to GEAB in "Gallerian". It now has gone almost three month and I have not received a replacement. The reason for not beeing to upset is that I have installed tracker and found myself more happy without the flip.
Another thing is that you can get your firmware upgraded at GEAB in "Gallerian" while you are waiting. You have to pay about 200 SEK though.

Stefan

If you can not find the flip locally, you can order them at http://www.globalmob.com

If you are replacing the flip, you may want to consider changing your whole housing to mineral grey...

Thanks Stefan!
I just wonder if a broken flip is covered the warranty or not?
I will now try to live w/o the flip using Tracker, I am just slightly worried about the screen, since I refuse to put the phone in a case, I want to have it in my pocket, easy to reach. Any experiences of this?

I have upgraded my firmware at to locations in Stockholm: Gumperts. Valhallavgen and recently at the mobile phone shop in Sahlenhuset, Regeringsgatan. Both places upgraded in 30 minutes free of charge and were very friendly.

Hi

Thanks for the information about firmware.

I don't know yet if the flip is covered by the warranty. I will keep you informed.
I am using and old cover from a PCMCIA hard drive as cover for the P800. This cover is open in one end and it is easy to slide the P800 in and out.
I also have an screenprotector that I ordered from Singapore. It took less than a week to receive it.
I guess you have to keep your keys in a separate pocket from your P800.
