Just wondering if you could help me out. Every time i make a call
it keeps trying to make the call and then says 'call disconnected'. There are no bars placed on the phone. But the weird thing is i can send sms messages. Is it a software problem and if it is what is my best bet to get it fixed.

I have the same problem. My SIM card works perfectly in my OLD 3650 which has a knackered speaker, but my replacement lets me send and receive SMS messages but I get the "Call Disconnected" message when I make a call and either get number unobtainable or engaged if I try to call the phone.
The same happens with GPRS connections.
My service provider (VODAFONE) can't find anything wrong.
I've seen things about "2nd line" options but wouldn't know how to investigate this.
If anyone can shed any light it would be a great help.
