Starting a new sentence with a Capital letter after a "." or "enter"
I have "Abc" mode selected when I type messages on P800. When I press a "." or start a new line, the letters still stay lowercase? I then have to press * key a few times to get it onto "Abc" mode (although it IS on it already). It then allows me to say type a name with the first letter in Uppercase.
Ideas how to have it automatically do this without having to press the * key a few times...?
Don't think it's possible. It's mostly phones with predictive text input methods like T9 that will automatically do capitalisation.
yeah, stupid sony :robot:
Might've been a stupid move of S/o/n/y yes, seing that so many users complain about the lack of predictive text input...
But the P800 was designed with touch screen text input in mind, and I believe the flip is mostly there with quick access to simple phone functions in mind, and not for major text input. I only keep the flip on to protect the screen, quickly switch the speaker phone ON/OFF, dial or look up a number with one hand, quickly switch to silent mode and screen lock etc. And most of these functions can be accessed by using the jog dial only. Besides, as the pins on the back of the flip is just touching the screen, I don't think text input would be very easy and accurate even if we had T9.
You can also see that the Nokia Communicator don't have T9 on the phone side, because of the same reason - that using the keyboard will be the main use for text input. Most people buying an expensive tool like the P800 isn't just looking for a cool phone, but for the very fact that it has a touch screen and is a PDA. Just like Communicator owners bought it for the full QWERTY keyboard. And having this in mind, Nokia and SE don't have to pay Tegic for the use of their T9.
I do of course agree that having the T9 option would be nice nevertheless, but that was a business desicion SE took, and personally I don't have a big problem with that, the way the P800 is designed I would never use the flip for heavy text input anyway.
As for the next version (P810/P900) T9 is crutial as the flip will work separately from the touch screen, and the display area in flip closed mode will also be bigger.
