my second 3650 to die - can I fix it?

discovery: If I boot the phone without the SIM card, it seems to do a little better, and I get an error message to insert the SIM. Is there a "safe" mode (w/out 3rd-party software, obviously) I can start in, that would let me either reformat the phone or use PC Suite to restore a backup state?

I somehow fixed my phone. But I don't know why it worked.

I remember reading about some rumored "safe mode" but nobody ever seemed to know what exactly is was.

I was able to start the phone with the memory card removed and the pencil key held down during boot-up. The phone finally started normally, and prompted me for date and time.

I turned it off, replaced the MMC and turned it on... worked perfectly.

Replaced the MMC as in putting another in or just putting the MMC back in?

One thing that complicates the 7650 and 3650 during white startup is the asking for the pin code, as well as the security code of the phone. That's why at times, it would not go and boot properly.

Remove your sim, place it in another phone, remove the Sim request so that when you switch the phone on, it would not ask for pin code.

In summary, if you have set the pin and security code on, during boot up, type in the pin code then ok, then type your security code then ok. Do this steps even if you only see the white screen. You will then be able to go to the phone mode.

It would do this for several times and then the phone turns off. I tried taking the SSD card out, the sim card out, holding pencil button down during boot, replace the battery. None of these would make it boot. T-Mobile is nice and willing to send me a third replacement. But, I can't live on like this. The first phone happened about two weeks after I got it. The second phone dies after a week. I got Appman, Fielexplorer, and some games installed in the SSD card. I wonder is it maybe these softwares are the cause. Man, I wish somone can tell me whether this is a software or a hardware problem.

This happened to me. I was running goboy and put it in the background so that I could keep playing the game later. When I pulled my phone out of my pocket it was dead. I turned it back on and it would attempt to power up three times and then turn off. Luckily I was in the two week return period so I returned it to ATT for a new one. Your only other option is to send it to a Nokia service center.

Anyway, here is why it is both: the software crashed the poorly designed OS. Nokia comounded the problem by not being smart enough to put a hard reset button on their "smart" phone.

Any piece of equipment with the ability to load third party apps should have a hardware reset button. Could you imagine a palm pc without one? I really have no idea how this couldn't have been obvious to Nokia but apparently it wasn't.

No appman, no prblem.

I bought a 3650 and so far so good... goboy running, fexplorer and launcher.

As i said..so far, so good.But the reset button would be quite nice in deed...

i've had the same problem several times before.

the first time it happened, i took it off to carphone warehouse (in the UK) and they fixed it after 5 weeks (5 weeks without my baby 😞)

the second time it happened it worked after a few hours of messing around with it.

now it has done it again, but it's dead, however i shall try methods in this post to see if it works, i'm just praying it does, becaue i'm fed up of using my bloomin 5210 😞

everytime it has happened the phone could have got slightly wet...

first time, i was at a gig and sweat may have soaked through

second time, another gig, more sweat

this time, i got soaked in the rain

anyone think my theorey is right, or is it just a coincidence...?

i find i get the nokia screen -> white screen -> pin -> pin correct -> beep -> off quite often, when i have just uploaded somthing onto my mmc. all i do is reload the mmc into my computer and delete or move the new files. then it works fine.

your issue is different from ours.

our problem is:

nokia screen on white background, flick once, flick twice, goodbye, fade to black. yours seems different...

There have been many times now that my 3650 has crashed and kept trying to reboot itself but when i brought it along to the carphone warehouse i told them it needs reflashing with the symbian software, i knew what i was saying as the same problem happened with the 7650 i had and my friend managed to reflash it for �25 but as he's gone to live in spain now, i had to go to the carphone warehouse who charged me �30 to put it right and only took 2hours.

after 2 weeks, it happened again!! white screen, i knew the problem there and then, as i put downloaded videos on my memory card to play with the SmartMovie software, i didnt tell the carphone warehouse it was my fault as i knew i would had to pay out another �30, they had no choice but to reflash it again for free this time,

then guess what? it happened again about 3 months after, they thought there was something wrong with their software and spoke to someone higher up about it, they said we'll fixed it again and if it happens again we'll have to sort something out.

Since then it has never happened, dunno why??????

I have the same problem with my 3650. Does reflashing it really relive this phone. Because to reflash I would need to pay for it as its warranty has expired. If its worth the few bucks to get it alive. I would go for it.

Also, since this has been discussed rather extensively, does anyone have any clue why this problem is happenning?

So, there is the problem, i get a white screen, nokia logo then the nokia logo fades away, it reboots. After 3times it stops.

I tried the safe mode boot ( holding the pencil key), with/without sim car or mmc. Doesn boot. I can not ever enter either pin or numbers.
When without the sim card i won t ever get some kind of error..

For the one who did not read my post, my phone doesn t boot no more... i get the nokia logo than it reboots, tried so many combinaisons... (with/withou sim card, mmc, charger, safe mode) doesn t change anything HELP :con?

Got 2months ago my 4th 3650 from nokia but as my waranty has expired now im gonna have 2 find a sulution of fixing the same problem like all of u had.

Screen goes blank.........4xblinking nokia and shuts down!
I got this problem after installing PSILOC STOOLS on mmc.
Tried all posible combinations of powering on /sim+mmc/sim-mmc/mmc-sim/phone-sim&mmc.

Nothing worked but i found a way of entering my phone but am not able to receive or place calls and cant enter the menu.

Procedure: it might work by u!
1: Take out bat for atleast 1 min.
2: Replace the bat with sim but without mmc.
3: Plug in the charger and wait untill the letters NOKIA apear in the dark backround without backlight aprox...3sec after charger input.
4: Hold down power on button aprox...10sec till screen lights-up and now u phone should go to the main screen without entering password or time.

Works by me on V4.17 but as i said cant enter the menu or place calls due to some files wich dont load on startup or are curropt!

!!!SYMBIAN SUCKS!!! even my palm tungsten/w whas better than this nokia with symbian! I advice u guys to buy a mobile from ntt-docomo which works on linux and u'll save all the money,time,energy and DATA from all this hasteling with the unstable symbian.
