Right this is the thing I have been busy on:
The new Software Directory... wohooo.... Indeed the Symbian Software Directory (opinion 1 - does this sound pretentious).
Can be found at
http://www.allabouter6.com/software/directory/
Actually this doesn't show off its full power 😉
You can also effectively filter the results by various things.
e.g. Language. This link shows only opl programs.
This shows Games in both 7650 and 92x0 device groups:
http://www.allabouter6.com/software/directory/viewcat.php?l=o
This shows a listing of FreEPOC progs:
http://www.allabouter6.com/software/directory/viewcat.php?a=FreEpoc
This show 9210 business and financial programs that are shareware or commerical and written in MobileVB:
http://www.allabouter6.com/software/directory/viewcat.php?c=Financial%20and%20Business&d=Nokia%2092x0&l=v&t=b
So comments on what should be done etc.
Also there's going to be a competition associated with the relaunch (small one) and I wanted to ask you the best way to get entries - raffle of all forum members over 10 posts or collect everyones e-mail addy / name by a form?
Rafe
Hello Rafe,
I think it is straight forward. Do you think you can include one column free-/shareware / commercial software in the list once you've chosen the category?
Keep going otherwise!

Tilman
Rafe,
Get names via a form. not everyone who visits will be registered on the Forum.
2 things...
User Reviews and Comments is coming back with a warning, ie it's not showing anyhting. Using Opera 6.00 on Win98 release 2.
How about a button for the author of the app to update an existing app. For example, Vexed is now at 1.01 after a quick bug fix that didn't require a press release. Perhaps just emailing back to you to do the updates?
But, it's bloody excellent. Well done!

Yes that's probably a good idea. I'm trying to decide the best way to do it. As mentioned abive it can be filtered by the type i.e. freeware / shareware, so I need some way to make that obvious. Have a type column in there might do the trick.
At the moment I'm still playing, but have added a last 5 updates to the index page and search too.

Thanks Ewan.. firstly competiton - yep that's what I thought. BTW if any one wants some free market research (i.e. a question to ask when getting people to fill in the form let me know!).
User reviews and comments now fixed. Its still being worked on - idea is that people can submit and read comments on programs.
Edit button - good idea! Future plan (maybe never) is to have username/pw so author can update himself.. but to be honest most won't bother and its a security risk. What I'll do instead is have the edit button go to a prepopulated form that is submitted to me/ admins for updating.

I was supposed to help with the software dir, but I only made 3 posts so far :s
Just want to say that the software directory is looking very nice 😊
Ah ha... got user comments working (delay was to make sure it was secure - hope it is...)
Now you can say (anonymously if you wish) what you really think of Vexed and all the other software.
Note: its unmoderated at the moment, but that can easily be changed.

Not to get too demanding, but do you think it is possible to have some screenshots with the software reviews? Check www.aikon.ch, you probably know and it is in German (talking about native-speakers 😊 ) Maybe you can take the screenshots from there.

There's already support for this, but the images have to be uploaded first. Since I was concentrating on getting information in I didn't worry too much about this, but on subsequent updates I will be including images (and encouraging other updaters to do so to).
I'm investigtaing a better way to do it e.g. automatic upload but I have found anything yet.

If you just link to existing reviews? like I already did with silverball? Maybe a seperate view for an review url? then you would have screenshots 😊
BTW I'm busy with something very cool, which I hope I can present to you all very soon 😊)))
