can somebody please explain the difference between Wap over gprs and gprs for normal web access...no one in vodafone seems to know , i just get told its the same thing...

please clear this confusion, my p800 has 4 different internet and wap settings, i dont know why i need them all...i just want to use opera to access NORMAL internet.

thank you all.

If you imagine WAP or HTML as the language you are viewing and GPRS or dial-up as the modem you are using, it should get a bit clearer.
You can connect using GPRS or Dial-Up and either view WAP or HTML pages, both of which are catered for using the SE Internet program.
Hope this helps a little

Rai,

Try to explain to Vodafone that you need the settings for GPRS internet - the same settings you'd use to hook up your phone to a laptop and use it as a MODEM through a GPRS connection.

in simple terms, wap, is dial up and you pay per minute and it runs slower

gprs, u pay per mb (how much you download, so u can have a perminant connection but only pay for what u veiw

Addario, don't put WAP and GPRS in the same basket.Read DaveHutch's explanation one more time.WAP can work over dial-up and over GPRS,so the speed isn't an issue.Like he said,WAP is the language,GPRS or CSD(dial-up)is the bridge that makes using the language possible(Now i confused myself) so in order to use WAP,HTTP or any internet related service you will need either GPRS or a CSD(dial-up) connection on top of which the language(WAP,HTTP,IRC)can be used.

back to being a little confused now...if i can connect to wap sites using gprs (internet account ie username:web, password:web seting on p800)...why is there a wap account setting on the phone? what will that do as opposed to just using the internet account to connect and then typing in a wap address to look at?

thax again.

rai.

Usually, gprs wap expenses are lower then gprs internet expenses so the operator gives you separate accounts for gprs wap and gprs internet. You can open wap pages only with your gprs wap account and you can browse the internet only with your gprs internet account.

I've had a little idea a while back, maybe you can use Opera to open www.ttemulator.com and browse wap pages while connecter trough your internet account. My operator chargers 1 euro for 1MB of grps wap and 1 euro for 120KB of gprs wap,so if it works i can browse wap pages an pay less 😉

it is a very good explanation

the reason i said it in a diferent way is cause i work in mobile retail and i have tried explaining to customers that way but most of em just get confused so i say it the other way 😊

o and ghostdog, sorry, i usually end up confusing ppl
