Hi all,
I intend to upgrade my 7650's firmware from Version 3.12 to the latest version 5.06. However, I have a lot of stuff in my phone that I wish to retain. Mainly the following must be restored.
Contacts
Messages(Sms, Mms, Inbox, Outbox, Sent, etc)
Images Folders
GPRS Settings
Downloaded Ringing Tones
What are the steps to do this?
Would appreciate all help. 😊
p.s. the only reason for firmware upgrade is cos of the pathetic volume of the speaker phone, if not my 7650 is working very fine.
What effect will upgrading the software version have on the volume of the speaker? I suppose it will increase, right?

Yeah, u got it. At least, it will become audible....
Make a full backup with PC Suite (check also BackupExclusionList.dat in the PC Suite installation directory for phone folders/directories that aren't backed up unless you remove them from this file) and restore it after the firmware upgrade.
Just in case, to at least save your contacts, synchronize the phone with Outlook.
And, possibly, also send any/all images, notes and other files one by one using infrared or Bluetooth. (You can also use a tool like FExplorer to help with that).
The last two steps in case you end up with a backup you're unable to restore.
Thanks, but for the BackUpExclusionList.dat file, what should I remove so that everything is backed up? Delete the entire contents?
Btw, I read in another thread that the PC recognises the upgraded phone as a "new" phone. How do I get around this?
from backupexclusionlist, I removed the midi and java lines - I guess you could take out all the lines referring to the file types, depends what you find useful.
following n/a's remark about using fexplorer to move files, that's Ok, but you could also use epocware's pcfilemanager, which sits on the PC and lets you browse the phone
I've had 2 fw upgrades, and no problem restoring the pcsuite backup...

D:\
C:\system\temp\
C:\system\midp\
C:\system\sounds\digital\
C:\system\sounds\simple\
C:\system\apps\phone\oplogo\
C:\system\shareddata\reserve.bin
C:\system\data\voucherdb
C:\system\data\backupvdb
E:\system\midp
From what I see, I have C: and E: drive midp lines, which one do I remove to ensure that it is restored?
I want to retain the midi I downloaded, and java apps. So which other lines do i delete?
Btw, can anyone tell me what does each line stand for?
I presume the only thing I have to ensure for a restoration of the pcsuite backup is the correct naming of the 7650(exact same name)
D:\
C:\system\temp\
C:\system\shareddata\reserve.bin
C:\system\data\voucherdb
C:\system\data\backupvdb
E:\system\midp
Leave it like this, then everything important is backedup.

Thank you very much. What's the difference between the C: and E: Midi?
E:\ Drive is the memorycard on 3650
And you cant have that on 7650, so no point in backing that up.
D:\ Drive is the Temporary drive, which is cleared every time you turn the phone off. The should be nothing important there.

Thanks for clarifying. 😊
Just upgraded my firmware to 5.06, restored everything back from PC Suite, however a little disappointing cos the handsfree mode is still as soft as before. Was expecting a little more... 😞
