I decided to activate the PIN protection on my phone, so I opened the security menu and put "PIN code" to "On". It asked for my old PIN and since I didn't know what the factory default was, I tried a bunch of different ones. Eventually, I got to 12345 (I think it was) and the phone suddenly went "PIN blocked, enter PUK code". I had no friggin idea what the phone was on about. I removed the battery, and started the phone. First thing that comes up is, "PIN blocked, enter PUK code"...
Over and over, I try different codes and get "Wrong code", until I enter "12312312" as PUK code and "35113511" as new PIN code. The phone pops up "SIM card not approved" (roughly translated). What the hell? I restart the phone, same thing. Start the phone without SIM, "Insert SIM card". Switch to a different SIM, "SIM card not approved". What the heck :/ What should I do? Am I screwed now? I have lot's of pictures and data on the phone that I'd like to back up... I don't want to format it or anything...
Hm change of story... apparently it works with a different SIM... when I put my SIM in a different phone, it says "PUK blocked"... WHAT THE HELL? 😞
Yeah handly little things these security features on the 7650 are... The problem with your PUK code is network-related, nothing to do with your phone - the defaul PIN code is always a specific no. for each network (like 1111 or 0000) except you didn't know that - just phone whichever network you're on and ask for the PUK code to unblock it.
The sim card not approved is to do with the phone (a security feature) - if you're phone is stolen or lost it stops people from just changing sim cards over and still using it i.e. makes it unusable to anyone who doesn't know the right code. Put whichever sim card in you originally used and alter the settings (settings -> security -> phone and sim -> lock if sim changed) to no and that should allow you to swap sims without any problems.
Hope that's of use 😃 8)
pcuk_2000 is right on the point.
let us know about the results that you get.. and hopefully a positive one too 😃
but im just wondering if you were to format the phone using *#7370#
I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS but you can try it..
or you'll just have to visit your local nokia service center for a firmware/software upgrade.. 😞
If you get to point where your PUK is blocked, you cant do anything with it anymore. You have to get a new sim card.

Whats up with you people, if its asking for a PUK you need to ring the network operator and they will first check the phone is not stolen, then give you the unlock PUK code.
Right, if your SIM is blocked and the phone is asking for a PUK. However, if you entere the wrong PUK too many times, then the SIM will be permanently blocked and has to be replaced. That's what JyriK referred to.
