I've changed the case on my Orange UK P800 to the mineral grey case (thanks for all the step-by-step instructions listed in another thread) and it didn't occur to me until afterwards that I'm still running the base firmware (R1D/R2C/R1F01).
I'd quite like to get this upgraded - but Im a bit wary about whether or not they will charge me for this, or say my warranty is invalidated now (which I suppose it is). Couldn't I just say that I paid another SE service centre to change the case? 😊
I also have a dead pixel (I think) on the LCD screen - do you reckon I'd be able to get this replaced under warranty?
SE are very strict when it comes to warranty as I found out, but the best thing to do would be to call Celestica and ask them if this will void warranty.
Carphone warehouse dont seem to be too bothered when you take it in. You could just say you bought it grey, they dont ask for proof of purchase etc.
Celestica are the main SE service centre in the UK and get the final word of warranty replacements.
But Sidneys idea is also good, especially if you take it to the CPW in Leeds as it's run by a load of untrained chimps 😃
It is true, when i took mine, the guy started taking my details for booking it in then suddenly walked off without saying anything and someone else came along and had to start it again! Was done in an hour tho so nice and quck. 😃

The sentiments expressed about CPW kinda ring true based on my experiences with the local CPW this afternoon when I went out for lunch:
Me: Hi, don't suppose you can tell me if the Cribbs Causeway CPW can upgrade the firmware on P800s can you?
CPW: Firmware?
Me: The software I mean
*CPW bloke gets on phone to them*
CPW: Can't say for sure, Cribbs doesn't have a direct line because of its size, you go through to a call centre. The bloke at Newport who trained in the same area says he can though, so chances are Cribbs can too.
Me: Cool. Another quick question, I've changed the case on mine *shows case* - will I still be able to get the firmware done under warranty? ... free I mean
CPW: Yeah can't see why not
Me: Is my warranty still valid having just changed the case?
CPW: Yeah.. they're normally only funny about you actually taking the case apart
Me: Err.... yeah.. hehe
I obviously didn't inform him that you have to take the whole thing to pieces to fit the mineral grey case..

😃 although it's bad though when you go in with a technical question, and the person in the shop can't answer you without making up some crap, especially the tmobile shop in arndale center in manchester, the guy didn't even know gprs bundles were released on tmobile and the guy just started talking about what wap was and shit.
